On my 71 Gulfstream sombody at one time replaced the drivers side and walk-thru glass with plexi glass. Instead of going to a boat yard and swaping a full windshield, can't I just get a new piece cut? if so has anyone done this before? Thanks Zet

yep, is it a straight piece, or curved. straight just measure, and cut with a jig saw with a metal cutting blade. have someone help support it. if curve use some craft paper and tape it to the frame, take a sharpie, from the inside and mark a pattern. add allowance for rubber. cut large so you can trim where necessary. i recommend lexan over plexi. better stress factory.

Just about any glass shop should be able to cut you a new piece of flat safety glass, the key word is FLAT.
This glass is common on heavy duty trucks and equipment so it's fairly available.
Be sure to mention the color of tint, the most common is green.
If yours is curved, your only option is either lexan or plexiglass or finding an original replacement.
I just got some pieces of laminated safety glass custom cut for a project of mine, they were about 18x23" and cost me $25, the shop had just replaced a huge piece on a large truck and was able to cut me a clean piece from the old windshield. They actually cut me several from that old windshield, and one out of a new piece of glass. The price is usually higher if they have to order a special piece to custom cut, but I didn't care about the tint color or shade for what I needed these for.
