Winterizing new boat, new to me :)

Hi all,
I've recently purchased a 2016 Four Winns H260. My previous boat, I winterized myself by draining the block and pour antifreeze into the hoses. New boat has a 350 volvo with a closed cooling system and heat exchanger. The (red) engine does not have the valve that can be opened to drain the block but has a tube with a garden hose fitting for flushing the engine after salt water use. The coolant in the radiator is good at -45. It was suggested to me that I can pour 2-3gallons of antifreeze into the flush tube until it runs out of the prop and that will winterize the heat exchanger.. As I have a pretty significant investment in this boat, I'd like to be sure that this process will actually take care of the heat exchanger? Any advice would be appreciated.

If you’d post the serial number, we can direct you to the correct owners manual where this topic is covered. I don’t suggest following the suggestion received until all water has been drained from that side of the system and impeller removed unless you have a way to mechanically pump it through and the engine is idling. Gravity is insufficient. For simplicity, just follow the VP procedure specific to the Serial No. Also, your motor likely has Cats given the MY of boat. If so, don’t fog the cylinders and only use VP oil or Mobil 1 of the correct weight. Cats are expensive, they’ll foul, then fail. Not covered by warranty if failed this way.

Thanks very much. The tag on the engine has a variety of numbers

The manual that I had found was very non-specific.

A506629 is your serial number.
You can download for free the OPERATORS MANUAL and SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL at the Volvo Penta website. The info you need will be in them. Note that there will be no mention of using anti-freeze for winterizing. That is covered in a service bulletin. Service Bulletin Group 05-2 Number 2 Version 3
Storage Marine Engines
Laying up The engine and other equipment must be laid up to prevent damage if they are not to be used for two months or longer. It is important that this be carried out correctly, and that nothing is forgotten. For this reason, we have compiled a check list of the most important items.

Just type in your serial number.
You are due for bellows and anti-freeze change this year.
