Re: wiring 1960 40hp no generator/reg
I believe the tower mwill be ok with a good greasing. I haven't got it back together yet. I figure she's gotta start before she goes.
Yes there's a snarl of splices and wires that connect to nothing. I only need my lights which currently work. I just use a plastic tank and hose so i will skip the fuel gauge, don't smoke so I'll skip the lighter. There is a fuse holder under my dash, is that my junction box? I want to skip that too and just run wire from the battery for my lights. #12? And from solenoid to key #14?
The auto store guy said my solenoid should be ok, the old connections had some green on them, but they're all brand new now.
About the marine solenoid - safer in case of sparks, good reason but I'd be willing to chance it BUT this exact quote from my book scares me-A magneto key switch operates in REVERSE of any other type key switch. When the key is moved to the OFF position the circuit is CLOSED between the magneto and ground. In some cases when the key is turned to the OFF position, the points are grounded. For this reason an automotive type switch MUST NEVER be used, because the circuit would be opened and closed in reverse and if 12-volts should reach the coil, the coil will be DESTROYED. end. Hogwash or what? My automotive one is installed but if you recommend the marine I'll grunt and change it
