won't run with cowl on.

I have a 1975 evinrude 25hp that runs great with the cowl off but when it is put on it bogs the motor down and it dies. I have checked for blockage and found nothing. Anyone know what this is,THANKS

Check to make sure the cover latches aren't hitting and interfering with the plug wires. Just a thought.

I had a mis on one cylinder with the cowl on, but when I took it off it went away. Then I noticed that when I latched the port latch the miss would start, when I would un-latch it the miss would stop. Turned out the latch was pressing against one of the plug wires and shorting it. I just re-routed the plug wire and it solved the problem.

Could be either but I am leaning toward the exhaust leak.

base plate gasket, exhaust leank, they don't like dirty air.
