I just bought a new to me pontoon in really great shape for a 1987 Sweetwater. What I want to do is slightly raise the seats, and console off the floor so water will flow under, and through, without bases absorbing the water, and rotting. What would be some ideas to solve this? Thanks, for any ideas.

You can buy pvc lumber and trim...white, solid, durable, water and freeze proof, use normal woodworking tools. Available at Lowes, Home Depot, and most larger lumber yards.

Spacers are all you would need. PVC pipe sounds like a great idea. By a length of 2" pipe and cut 1/2" spacers to place where they bolt to the floor. A table or band saw will do it nicely.

There are a number of things you could use. You could use some rubber washers, it does not have to be too thick. They also sell fence risers that you could use as well. I would strongly consider raising the rails as well.

Thanks for the info. Bought it about 2 weeks ago, and really haven't been able to do anything but sit in the seat, and make engine noises! You don't really know what to do, or where to start, sometimes. If it ever stops raining, I'll add a picture. By the way, ct0218. I go to Lake Junaluska, and Maggie Valley alot. From Lexington, NC. We really love that whole area. Thanks, again!

Well, I could, but my wife would have me pretty much where she wants me for awhile, and she would surely share that information....

I used the 3/4 thick PVC trim board, it works real easy. Even used it to make some shelves.

I like the idea of the PVC trim. I can use it both for the rails, as well as the seats. Knew I needed at least 3/4", because the carpet would flatten out when snugged down. Any ideas how to protect that strip of carpet between the rail and the pontoon deck edge? Seems it stays wet, alot, because covers seldom extend all the way to the sides.

Thats just one of those things, is going to get wet, but less surface contact make for faster drying and why sitting things on PVC runners helps it dry.

Re: Wooden Seat Bases on Pontoon Deck

As an update to what I have gotten done, I did use 3/4 PVC molding to elevate the seats, and the console. The boat place up the road had some of those spacers for the rails. They went on really quickly; in a couple of hours. Raising the other stuff was a little more time consuming, because I wound up having to do some minor repairs to the bases of the seats. Really helped when the snow started melting in the pontoon, from the collapsed cover. Completing some repair work on the transom, tomorrow. May actually take it out next week, for the first time, if the weather holds, and the honey do's subside. Thanks, again for the great suggestions offered on my recent posts. Really great guys, here!
