Re: Yamaha 130hp V4
One time I had a blind date who, when I met her, looked like a Victoria's Secret girl. I lost my breath, my heart pounded, other things happened. With a drop-dead-gorgeous smile she said "Hi!" and everything went to h***. She sounded like a marsh heron. It was an extreeeeeemly long evening. So, no matter how your boat LOOKS, how does the engine SOUND? If the guy's been using all the Yamaha lubricants (TC-W3, Ringfree, etc), the engine is great, and should give many years of service. If you have the engine in the water so the exhaust is muffled, listen from the middle of the block back to the plugs, and all you should hear is whirring. Clatter means excessive piston clearance, either from inferior oils or generally an improper starting procedure (too much throttle). Clatter from behind the carbs is normal reed-plate noise. If it whirs, you have a gem. If it clatters, it won't hurt to have towing insurance.
