I am about to trade in my rig on a new boat and motor. I am tossing up about the motor. With oil, fuel injection 2 strokes and then 4 strokes I would like an opinion on which way to go. I am old fashioned perhaps but figure the less fancy doodads, the less the problems. I have a quote for a Yamaha 40 hp XWTL 2004. That's about as basic as it gets with premix, standard 2 stroke but with elec tilt/trim and remote. Should I go for this or something else? By the way, the boat is a 15Ft ally runabout. <br /> well what is the competence level of your servicing techs?<br /> are you going to service it yourself? what is the avalibility of parts? 4 strokes work great last a long time and can be complex toremove and clean trash,water or gunk from the carbs. the 40 pre-mix 2 stroke is rock solid and can be fixed by monkeys.<br /> there are really no special tools needed for service or carb cleanings. parts are avalible and the motors design has been around 20 years or so. so for you down under its a hard call. study your options but remember they all break. thats what keeps me in a decent income bracket.<br /><br />good luck and keep posting
