Hi there!

I have some electrical problems with my
Yamaha 20 -87. The engine doesn't shut off
by turning the key switch or pulling out
the emergency stop. The only way is to
choke the engine and wait until it stops.
Starting the engine from the remote control
works great.

Are there any good ideas
of how to solve the problem?

Best regards,
Robbi

You have lost the ground connection to those switches. Grounding the ignition is how they work.

hello
make sure the white wire near the CDI is not unplugged and that the black ground wire is attached to the block or head. sometimes after service or vibration they will be loose.. white from the CDI box to earth kills it.

Re: Yamaha 20 will not shut off

Thanks for your advice!

I checked and cleaned all cables and connections.
I have to connect the remote control and battery
in order to check if everything works. For the moment I have the lower unit for service.

Robbi

Hello again,

Hi have still problems with engine shut off.

Checked all wires in both engine and remote control. Think I should try to measure if white is grounded when shutting off.

What else could cause the problem? Faulty CDI? How do I know if it's the CDI that doesn't work?

Robbi

Found the problem!

Cable connection between engine and remote control was causing the problem. I should have checked it first but I missed it.

Robbi
