yamaha 8hp problems

i have a 93 model 8hp two stroke,it ran fine until i laid it in garage for 2 months,it would only run with choke on.i thought i would rebuild carb,put a carb kit in it and rebuilt fuel pump,all new lines and filter.when i got that done i tried to crank,it ran fine for about 5 seconds then quit.it will not recrank.i have fuel and fire??any help.

The carbs on these motors generally have very small passages which easily become clogged with gummed up fuel and are very difficult to clear manually. I would try disassembling the carb and soaking it in a good parts cleaner overnight, this should dissolve any deposits in these very small passages and hopefully solve your problem. Also a good fuel stabilizer used during storage should prevent a repeat of this issue.
