Re: Yamaha Customer Service

I just called Yamaha again. It was only 3 minutes 15 seconds of waiting time before I got a real person who was more than willing to help me (yes, I actually timed it). She offered to fax me the specs asap, send me a brochure, and she answered any immediate questions I had.

I notified her of the problem you are having with their web site. She checked (while I was on hold) and verified the problem. She said she would contact someone about it. She mentioned that the 2005 F9.9 specs are on the web site, and there is very little difference between that outboard and the 2005 T9.9, with the exception of shaft length, gear ratio, and a few other minor details.

Seems like good service to me.

Re: Yamaha Customer Service

I finally spoke with a Yamaha Headquarters rep today. I waited 15 minutes for the priviledge and I am ok with that. He was not as knowledgeable as the rep forktail spoke with, but he did try to help. At first he said he didn't think there was any changes, cause that motor has been unchanged for so long... LOL... where have I heard that before. He didn't offer to fax or mail me the specs and I didn't ask him to. Together we compared the specs as I made notes on my dealer provided brochure with the 2004 specs. This was all new to him, but he made an honest effort to answer my questions, and had me hold when he needed to ask someone else.He explained that he was really more geared to resolving problems than marketing new products.
One thing I wanted to know about rated hp at other rpm's than max and he said that info would not be available -- I could write to Japan where they would have that info, but they would only send my request back to his office where they don't have that info. He said he would not be able to get such info, although he agreed that it would be good info to have and a good marketing piece.

Then I went to the website and I see they still omit T9.9 specs. They do have a cartoon diagram that shows more thrust at mid range rpm's than comparable 2 strokes.

Yes this is welcome progress, but there sure is room for improvement. Hopefully, soon to follow.

Anyway, the point of this topic was how to make contact with Yamaha Customer Service in order to get info on a new motor to purchase. It was not to bash Yamaha or to become the critical evaluation that it did. Hopefully if Yamaha sees this they will take my experiences and observations as constructive criticism and improve where needed.

Since the initial objective of this topic has been reached, I would like to give this thread a rest.

If anyone is interested in the design changes of the T9.9 please post in the other thread I started: T9.9HP High Thrust-- 2004 VS. 2005.

Thank you for your interest.

Re: Yamaha Customer Service

all this crazy stuff over a 9,9. its like a guy asked me once about a Speed prop for his 9,9. I told him to buy a 50. the nut was trying to push a 24 ft pontoon with a 9.9. no matter what you do you will still have a maximum of 9.9 horsepower at the rated RPM. all the other stuff is to assist the engine to push. it takes different gearing to swing a larger dia smaller pitch prop and displacement speeds. so far yamaha has had better service than all the others .
I have worked with mercruiser, merc, mariner, chrysler( a year or so ago anyway:))suzuki,honda,volvo-penta and tohatsu and Yamaha.
good luck and keep posting

Re: Yamaha Customer Service

Seakindly, I doubt any outboard manufacturer will provide you HP ratings at different RPM. Outboard manufacturers simply do not publish those power curves.

Had I known that was the particular information you wanted, I could've told you that you wouldn't get it and you'd be wasting your time. I had already provided you with all the other pertinent info of the new model. I also made you aware that the new T9.9 information was just released to consumers only hours ago and Yamaha is aware of the fact the T9.9 is missing on their newly revised web site. So you didn't really need to call Yamaha and beat this dead horse.

rodbolt, yes, 9.9 HP is 9.9 HP. But how that HP is turned into thrust is what matters.

This new T9.9 is of importance to some of us because we use them to push some big loads. In my case I use them as trollers and aux power for my fleet of 22-24' custom aluminum fishers. They run way more hours and work way harder than my big outboards. I certainly depend on them more. Also, this particular outboard hasn't changed much in over 20 years...until now. This year it is going to a completely different engine block. That's big news to guys like me who prefer the tried and true....even if it is only a 9.9 HP. And since it's going to the 15 HP's engine block, I expect it will perform differently.

Re: Yamaha Customer Service

Forktail--Today, I spoke with Yamaha first, went to their website second, and read your 3:45pm post third. Let me assure you that I will not be calling Yamaha to beat a dead horse about the omission of the T9.9 specs for 2005 as they did for 2004, since I know that you have already informed them of that. I reported my experiences here for clarity and closure to this Customer Service topic.

Your reply to Rodbolt is classic Forktail High Thrust info and I wish we were discussing it under the T9.9 High Thrust -- 2004 vs.2005 discussion.

I don’t know if I can, but I am going to try to lock this thread, because it no longer serves it’s purpose.

Please go to the T9.9 High Thrust-- 2004 vs. 2005 topic in this forum to continue to discuss these motors.

ok ... only an administrator can close a topic.

I will report this post and hope they do.

Let's talk about the motors in the right thread for our sanity and those who will search in the future. :)
