Paint on the under side of the deck? It will last much longer if you coat it will resin, longer still if you put a layer of fiberglass on the bottom. Paint will only buy you about 10 years or so before it rots again.

I built the port side box. I made them smaller so the new seat fits with the bases they came with. Also the second Teak locker cover has been sanded and it first coat of Watco is on.

I have been steady at it. The floor is close. I have repaired the engine cover. I plan on skinning the side with hard wood.

The floor is about done. A couple of spots and complete. I took and set the engine cover on the boat. I was worried about the height. I wanted a little more room to give me option to play with the engine. The cover doesn't fit on the engine bay. I would have thought all the Rinkers would be about the same. Especially since the other boat had a 4 cyl.

figured out the cover issue.

Does seem odd that I have over 2 gallons of resin in the floor of my boat? Is that alot?

Glad to see you getting some stuff done, its looking good...

As far as using 2 Gallons of resin on the deck...that would depend on how and where it got used...was that just on finishing the top? Did that include the tabbing along the edges?
If you added the usual layers of CSM, etc. that sounds about right...heck, I just went through a little over 2.5 gallons just making PB and wetting out the CSM to hold all my "nailers" in place...

Re: Yankeyspeed's Winter project.

I'm with GT...What was your Layup Schedule for your Deck/Floor? If you put a Layer of CSM on the bottom (as you should have) and 1-2 layers on top and then the tabbing to the hull then 2 gallons is really not that bad at all when you consider that a gallon usually wets out about 4 square yards of CSM. Based on your pics I'd guess three layers of CSM would be about 7-9 yds so you're right in the Ball Park.

Yes I did tab the edges. And had to rebuild the boxes at the stern. I resined some blocks to the transom for the swim platform to bolt to. I will post some pics in the next day or so.

SOOOO, finally the carpet is glued down,(most of it.) I still have a couple of small spots to do but the seats are in and me and the family are excited. The Rinker is not done yet but I think the major hurdle (HOPEFULLY) is done.

Got the boat running again. It still needs a tune up but it runs. I bleed the sterndrive and it is holding good now. I need to take it over and float test it and see if I missed anything.

Re: Yankeyspeed's Winter project.

I plan on cleaning it up and keeping it. I dont like cheap (quality) fixes. I am pretty sure the Rinkers of this time had fiberglass stringers. The transom looks pretty good. I am a decent mechanic and hot rodder. So cosmetics and maybe some performance. Yes I know, I have read there is nothing for the 3.0.

I got this email from Randy Rinker after asking about the stringers in my 1987 V190: "The 170 and 180 models had fiberglass stringers instead of wood stringers."

Yup its true!!!! mine has glass stringers. So if you are looking for a project boat, these are good choices.

I got the engine running again, found a crack in the block. Got that fixed. The fuel line would not cooperate so had to replace that. Now I to fix a small fuel leak then I can splash it.

I read the "S" word...:whoo:

Yeah I am getting excited as well. The boat still needs alot of work, paint, interior ect. but its coming. I didnt think it was quite this in depth to get it done. Its as much as a car.

Re: Yankeyspeed's Winter project.

Got the boat in the water. It ran pretty good. Still needs to change point, plugs, wires, ect. The Gtech PRO says 39 MPH. Overall Im very happy with how it went. I did learn that launching and retrieving a boat by yourself is a chore.

Re: Yankeyspeed's Winter project.

Starting to build a transom cover out of Teak. I found a guy that I can get Teak ply for fairly inexpensive. I think I need a Teak engine cover.
