Transom question. I have read all the reviews and all the post on how to repair a transom and I cann't tailor those to my needs, so here goes:
I have a 76 Sea Ray Sundancer 260 dual powered I/O with a rotten transom. I can't use the Seacast due to the design of upper transom area and access to pour it in. So here is what I was thinking, Remove the outdrives and cut out the outer skin leaving about 4 inches from the edge to re-adhere. Then replace the rotten wood with new marine grade ply coated and wrapped with resin/cloth.
Using this method, How do you attach the new wood to the edges? Do you use screws? Or just using the glass/resin?

All of the transom repairs I have seen or read about are for smaller boats with an outboard motor. My transom is twice the size with no access from the top without lifting the entire upper shell.

Your transom would be restored by using glass and mat. Here's a quick guide to smaller glass repairs, might be worth a look:http://www.boatus.com/boattech/casey/17.htm
You really don't need to blanket the new wood before installing it. Your subsequent layers of mat and glass will take care of that for you. If you want some extra protection this product is wonderful, called CPES by these folks:http://www.rotdoctor.com/ Good luck and post a lot of pics. :D

the proper way to do it. is to pull the outdrives, and engines, get inside and go to work. split the hull if necessary. avoid cutting the outer skin if at all possible. thats just another of the maintainance headaches of owning an I/O. the reason, if the transom is rotten 99.9% chance the stringers, the motors are mounted to are on their way out also.

Ayuh,....... Exactly......

Going in from the Outside of the transom is Rarely Successful........
