i think it's further damning since the dealer took a mastercraft branded trailer and stuck it under a used boat. had they left the boat's original trailer under the boat and said they never touched or looked at it, there isn't much the buyer can say other than he bought a crappy trailer. but the dealer took one of their unwanted trailers, told him it was fine when they most likely knew it wasn't. if they thought the trailer was really ok, it would have stayed under a mastercraft boat. it wasn't ok and they weren't going to stick a mastercraft buyer with it.

If the dealer you bought it from had his repair shop put an inspection sticker on it before he sold it to you, you better believe it...

We are not talking about buying a used car and the engine blows up two days later. We are talking about if you buy a used car that just had a safety inspection and the wheels fall off because the frame was rotted away two days later...
I understand completely what you are saying here but putting a certification sticker on it surely takes away the "as is" part of the deal. Here it would then be sold "certified" with I believe a 30 day comeback on the safety check items. "As is" to me means exactly that. No implied warranty on anything at all.

If the dealer had any ethics at all this would already have been resolved.
I feel they are trying to buy more time by saying the owner is not there until Jan. 3rd.

Alpheus has much more patience than i would have.If it were me that trailer would have already been back to the dealer in a pile in front of the building..;)

Have to agree with this !!!
I would most likely have "parked it" at the entrance to the place.

Alpheus, you are a patient man i know i would have let the dogs out by now, and delivered that trailer in small pieces so nobody else could get it with a patch job, only a very desperate dealership would pull a stunt like that.

Alpheus,
I have a dollar that says the owner and the salesman are using this week to concrete their side of the story.

The pictures you posted make it extremely one sided on the condition of the trailer.

I truly hope it works out for you but that extra week you allowed them doesn't give me "warm fuzzies".

I still say keeping the tv crew in his back pocket the day of the confrontation is the key no matter the terms of the sales deal. These buisnesses pay big bucks for advertisement but the advertisement they'll get from this would certainly cost them more than making sure our man Alpheus has something to pull his boat around on! And if it were me I would just drop by the dealership just to see if that salesman and the owner are really out of the office.

So when we all show up at the dealership with the TV crew to support Alpheus, do we bring our own torches and pitchforks or will those be provided?

I agree with this myself. I would be making an unannounced stop this week just to see for my self... I would also snoop around and see if that Aluminum trailer the boat was on was still on the yard somewhere...

I am waiting. I have a contingency plan just in case the guy never returns my calls or runs me out of his office. no pitch forks, no threats of violence.

I know the dealership is well aware of this thread and the number of people looking at this and the number of posts.

Just do the right thing and put my boat on a trailer that's truly safe. Nothing fancy just something to get my boat to the water in one piece. That's all that I ask...

Wow Alpheus, I remember seeing your thread about when you brought this boat home, and darn if that trailer didnt look like new almost (from the pics)
I am seriously amazed....
Im not sure if you could force rust to grow that fast on anything in 3 years, mebbe that trailer is actually older and refurbed to look new? might not even be a mastercraft trailer.??

Good luck!

This is the VIN tag thats on the trailer. If someone has tampered with this they are in trouble. The title to the trailer is titled to the dealership and is not just a transferred title from another owner and its a one owner title.

That puts a whole new spin on things....They owned it since new and it was probably used as a yard trailer or loaner....interesting.

Makes me think even more that they knew it was junk and time to get rid of it.

WOW a lot of reading. Still not to the end yet. You said he changed trailers and and the trailer didn't match the boat design. he probably won't do anything for you "as is" remember. If you had put the boat on that trailer you would have created an unsafe condition but since the dealer used a trailer not recommended by the manufacturer has created an unsafe condition then knowingly sold it as such and put life and property at risk. Sounds like you might need an attorney to sort it out .
But judging from the pics you should have definately noticed something when you looked it over if you didn't you didn't look mhard enough.
Had a dealer give me the same speel when buying a 69 mustang, rack cylinder attachment to frame was real bad and I was walking away when he told me it was perfectly safe and I should take it for a drive I got in fired it up and ran the steer ing wheel stop to stop. I freed the cylinder from the frame it is supposed to be mounted to. i removed the keys and handed them to him and repeated it is not safe and walked away.

What are the dates on that trailer title?
It might look like a one owner, but if the dates are not close to when delivered in 2005 or 2006, it might just be a new title in the dealers name after it was traded in.

Also I don't recall seeing the dealer name in the post. KEEP IT THAT WAY don't want to see them trying to use slander against you or would it be lible since it is typed and not spoken
Boat looks nice though

It has already been established that this trailer was NOT sold "as is". It was blessed by the dealers "trailer techs".
