This happened about two summers ago,I still can’t believe this one myself. We were out pontooning along a little above idle in about 75ft of water, and my 12 year old son is playing with his new pocket knife. He had been using it for cutting bait and everything that a 12 year old can do with a knife with Dad watching. So he has the blades closed and is flipping it in the air and catching it, I tell him to stop doing that, well the next time he misses and the knife bounces off the back of the boat. Before I could even yell STOP or even open my mouth he dives off the back of the boat after it. All I could do was shut the motor down and run to see where he was. Scared crapless I see him coming up from about 10ft under with his knife in hand. And as he breaks the surface he yells, I GOT IT!

I had a long long long talk with my son that day.

You got a heck of a kid there.

You may, or may not survive the stress of watching him grow up. But, in one form or another, he's destined to become a great American.

He is a great kid, now 14; I don’t know what got in to him that day. I guess all he was thinking was I got to save my knife. I just shows you have to expect the unexpected when it comes to kids.

At least he got the knife! Imagine how bummed he would be if he got "The Talk" AND lost his knife.

Ah being young and fearless I remember those days and can't figure out how I have made it to the ripe old age of 35 doing some of the stunts I have in the past or for that matter ones i have done lately.

I agree completely, I have pulled some good ones in my younger years, have rode dirt bikes for 38 years (and still do) and have had more than my share of “soil samples” from doing fibulas stunts.
