I Spent Memorial day weekend on Grand Lake of the Cherokees in OK. I know they have recently discovered zebra mussels in this lake. I washed down boat and trailer after leaving the lake. I noticed patches that appeared white and felt gritty on the hull. Could this be mussel larva. I had the boat in a slip for 4 days. Should the block and drive be drained or would flushing be sufficent. I would hate to be the one who infested our local lakes. Any help would be greatly appreciated
2005 Rinker R2

Re: Zebra Mussels

Flushing is not enough unless you are using bleach water or HOT water.
Dnr suggests HOT bleach water and high pressure.

Zebra larva (viligers) are microscopic.

Roscoe's right. To absolutely kill the larvae you need to run a bleach solution (I think 10%, but check with DNR) thru the motor. I also wash the boat hull and bilge down with the same bleach solution before launching in another lake.

Hopefully this info isn't too late to save your lake, Steve.

You need to find a group of tiger mussels to scare the zebra mussels away.
