Zebra Mussels

I Spent Memorial day weekend on Grand Lake of the Cherokees in OK. I know they have recently discovered zebra mussels in this lake. I washed down boat and trailer after leaving the lake. I noticed patches that appeared white and felt gritty on the hull. Could this be mussel larva. I had the boat in a slip for 4 days. Should the block and drive be drained or would flushing be sufficent. I would hate to be the one who infested our local lakes. Any help would be greatly appreciated<br />2005 Rinker R2

Flushing is not enough unless you are using bleach water or HOT water.<br />Dnr suggests HOT bleach water and high pressure.<br /><br />Zebra larva (viligers) are microscopic.

Roscoe's right. To absolutely kill the larvae you need to run a bleach solution (I think 10%, but check with DNR) thru the motor. I also wash the boat hull and bilge down with the same bleach solution before launching in another lake.<br /><br />Hopefully this info isn't too late to save your lake, Steve.

You need to find a group of tiger mussels to scare the zebra mussels away.

KC, if you bring those things into smithville, hillsdale, or truman I'll hunt you down and burn that boat myself...<br /><br />Don't mess with em... Eldorado in Kansas is infested and I'm just waiting for some idiot to come up here and start another mess...<br /><br />Dont' forget the livewells if you have any..
