Re: 175 faststrike prop?

Cold air IS more air. If it would have been a dry 60 degrees insted of fog, it would run even better....
I'd say your not a "long ways" off if it runs that much better in cool air.

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

Hey Guys, I noticed in the pics that the trim stop pin is in hole #2...Would it help to move it to #1 to get more "tuck" on takeoff ? I had this same motor on a 364 Ranger, and it sure helped me......Just an observation......

Im kinda new here but i still think you cant go wrong with a ss omc wheel in my opinion they make the best out of the box prop

dobers, have you ever run a Turbo, Stiletto, Mazco, power tech, hydromotive, or a Ron Hill in place of the OMC prop???
Have you ever run an early production Raker??
How about a Nauticpro???

:) Dobers there are many, many better props than the omc, like walley asked and he only named some.
Went out fishing sunday morning by myself, livewells full ,full tank of gas, cool air fogg again,I only let it warm up a couple minutes,it jumped out out of the hole quick, couldnt get e wot i was in a river and first time been there.still shocks me how 1 person can have that kind affect, and cool air.going fishing wenesday afternoon ill see if it does any better with my partner and warmer air.thanks

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

Mass x HP x prop rotation = speed
If you want a better hole shot increase the diameter and lower the pitch. If you want more speed increase pitch and lower diamter.
Here is how we set em up for racing on a new hull design.
Mount motor so that cav-plate is 1" above bottom of hull mid-center. Go out on water and trim it up till it cavitates. Mark that spot on your trim indicator. Then stop and and see how much more you can trim until it starts to tilt. Mark that spot. Now lower the jackplate 1/2" and retest. When you get it to max trim and it doesnt cavitate on corners, then the trim is set. Now to fine tuning. If the boat is too high in front at wot or gets squirrly, lower trim till it responds and then raise jackplate a 1/4" or until you hit max rpm without cavitation.

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

Another thing that causes this is a bad hull design. Especially if you are chine walking in corners. The only way to fix that is with trim tabs on the back or one of those hydro-wings that you attach to your cav-plate. Trim-tabs are better.

I disagree, respectfully..
This would be true if we have a set X-dimension.
If we have larger diameter, we can raise the engine, lowering drag, incresing RPM and speed with the correct prop.
I believe in max diameter and pitch as long as water pressure is good.
Sure, if we can't raise the engine to maximize the prop in use due to water pressure issues, we need to do something different. Lowering the engine isn't going to help hole-shot, unless we have a serious blow-out problem.

And, Ron G., I still think if you can trim all the way, the engine is too low. If you have a prop that lifts as needed for that hull, you don't need or use all of the trim..in fact, beyond a certain point, you begin to lose efficiency.
I still think Dhadley hit the nail on the head with the prop design.
We might want to look into another design.

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

thanks bubbakat.i ve got the motor right now were i can trim it all the way up and not blowout or have water problems ,i can raise it more and not trim as much if thats what ya think,it just means more testing :)

NOw this weekend took out dad and brother in law very big guys dads around 360 and brother in law around 330,holeshot was worse than with regular partner, but did better that i thought with that much weight, deciced to run her on up to wot got 5200-5300rpm at 53 mph now that confuses the H*LL otu of me because with my regular parter im only getting 5500 at 55Mph im really thinking i need a 3 blade 25?? keep the sugestions coming guys thanks.
wally that makes sence about the lift and raising the motor on up.

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

It's for a Mercury but all you have to do is have a prop shop shorten the splines and it will fit your Evin/John.
