Like John says, taking them off is free. Sure, why not? It will certianly give us a better understanding of how the combo works with and without it. You can always put it back on.

Sounds like we found the spot that the water pump likes -- and doesnt like. They used to make scoops for the water intakes. Not much to look at but amazing little devices. Does your lower unit have the 4 holes for water intake or the slot?

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

Here we go took hydroils off realy couldnt tell that much difference ran 65mph at 5500 rpm,ran smooth and was good made 6 runs all averaged that closly, partner got in boat on blast off motor died i guess it loaded up or something, heade off got about a 1/4 mile went to slow mode running 54mph?hole shot bad again.I dont understand itwhy would 1 person affecting this thing so much?with just me fairly good hole shot now and also it gets up and goingbymyself hits 55 mph quick at 4800 -4900 rpms but takes forever to get on to 5500rpms at 65mph,put some water in livewells takes forever to get up.Also motor died twice later in the evening and sputtered a few times while idealing ?,i was getting low on gas.

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

The scoop for that gearcase is part number 339247 I believe. The scoops for the holes arent available anymore.

I was just looking at the pics again and I "McDonald'ed" (super sized) them. I noticed the location of the transducer. It may be an optical illusion but is it right in front of the motor? The lower unit needs to have a clear shot of the water coming off the transom for about a foot on each side of center. If its in that area lets pull it off the bracket and test again just for kicks.

Ron , when was the last time a water pump was installed? Do you remember which one? 5001594 or 5001595?

I would sure consider looking at it. Make sure to use the 5001595 kit. That'd be a great time to get the scoops too. Cant hurt.

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

If youre even considering a nosecone, send the gearcase to Bob's Machine. They'll get it on straight and it looks like a factory job. Because it is. As fast as your boat is you dont want to fool around with that not being on straight. And staying straight.

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

The nosecone will have the water pick ups under the nose of the new bullet. The downside is that if you run in shallow water, youll suck up sand etc. The upside is you can jack the motor to the moon.

Bobs is in Ruskin (south of Tampa) fla. Try www.bobsmachine.com.

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

I have a 26 3 blade Michagin prop. I've been thinking about your set up and why it acts like it does. The 4 blade may have enough tail lift that its causing the water pressure isse with height. The other thing is that the small diameter may be working against us too. I've never been a fan of small diameter. It doesnt seem to carry well so that may explain the drop off in performance with an extra person.

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

I was beggin to think the same thing that the 4 blade was an affect on it,i looked here at iboats at the 14 1/2 x26 ballistic and the 15 1/8 scorpion any preferences ive never heard of the scorpion but 15 1/8 would that be a little much?Im going to alabama this weekend and will look at some props at a shop there any ideas of llok for with diameter as a starting point.

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

never thought about tail lift like that, makes sense now that you said a buddy tried out a 4 blade ballistic in place of his 3 blade and kept blowing out.I know why now, your knowlede is unsurpriseble thanks.

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

Just to chime in my .02, stay away from the ballistics. Not worth the price you'd get for them in scrap metal IMHO. They tend to blow out easily and many repair shops (around here anyway) won't rebuild them. Excellent advice as always from Dhadley.

Re: 175 faststrike prop?

amazing went out saturday had a tourny, boat ran better than it has since i got it jumped right out on plane ran great??why does cold air have that much effect it was foggy and id say around 60deg the way it ran i think we have the setup right for cold weather.do you think its just cold air or would more air to the motor also have the same results?
