Re: High Gas Prices

Hey!

Wanna hear something funny?

We, back here in Europe envy you like mad for your ultra low gas prices! The difference is not that apparent cause we use EURO and you Dollars. We mesure in liters you in gallons but I just used my calculator and saw that in Germany we pay:

$8,30 per gallon :D

And germany is not event the most expensive place. The french and english pay even more.

So... don?t be to sad about it and enjoy your low prices :D

Hi Chris,

Just out of curiosity whats the ave. middle class salaryIn Germany ? I mean what kind of money does the ave. man make, or combind income per couple? It's getting tuff here, EVERYTHING goes up when gas goes up. Maybe we're just not used to it, I don't know!

It's called taxes. That is why gas is that much more over there.

I have waited so long to get my boat, I don't plan to let gas prices effect my plans this summer.

Re: High Gas Prices

Its definately affected my boating. Even though the waterways are so extensive where I boat, that I can usually get to where I want to go on the water, I trailer closer to the eventual destination. I also make fishing buddies chip in for gas and supplies, whereas I used to just buy all of it when I invited someone to come with me.

I also join in on SAR missions with the Coast Guard sector, and the La. Dept of Wildlife & Fisheries division, in my area. My last search was last month and I spent a few hundred dollars on gas and oil for a boat that only has a 65hp engine on it. When the searches only happen every few months, I can deal with that but if they are more frequent, I will probably have to let the folks with public budgets carry the load. I suspect that others that do what I do feel the same and that is a shame, because we sometimes know the waters and currents (both on the surface and subsurface) better than the professionals do.

PS: The problem isn't the absolute price of gasoline here - it is that the price has gone up so quickly that our economy hasn't adjusted to it. The good news is that we will eventually adjust and we will eventually develop alternative energy sources. I think we will also realize how much we waste in absurd plastic packaging and the like. If I were an Arab or South American leader, I would enjoy my mega-lifestyle while I can because when oil consumption tapers off, there won't be much income for petro dollar based economies.

Personally, I don't give a crap what they are paying over seas.

There, I said it.

My biggest expense is getting the boat to the water. Last year's tow vehicle was a very bad *** '77 Ford 4x4 with a built big block and big lift. This year it is a very boring '08 F-150. Not gonna change how much I go.

Looking at burning about 50 gallons of gas every Sunday. Figure in the oil cost will bring our fishing day to a $200 trip. 3 people on board, everybody throws in 80 bucks and that pays for bait, refreshments, fuel and food.

The alternative could be Disneyworld, but I doubt that just my wife and I could go have fun there for a day for less than 300 bucks. ( It's less than an hour from here, Port Canaveral).

The cost of fishing is just that, the cost of fish is a moot point thereafter.

Re: High Gas Prices

probably won't effect me much i guess because i don't have far to drive with the boat & i spend 90% of my time with line in the water & electric motor pushing me around. that said, i'll still go through a tank a week ($80 or so)

for those that like to bash the oil companies, ask your self who makes more money on a gallon of gas? the oil companies or the government (taxes). the answer is government by a margin that's not even close. of course prince whateverhisnameis is the one making out the best:(

Well, an average Joe makes from 1000 EUR to 2000 EUR depending on his profession and depending if he?s married and has kids. An engineer in a good paying company like Mercedes Benz is making 3.500 EUR.

Thats what he or she gets after health insurance, unemployment insurance, pension payment and tax is paid.

A good car salesman at a big dealer of a good brand like BMW or Mercedes carries 4.500 to 6.000 EUR home after tax and insurance is paid.

BTW. you get $1,50 for one EURO today.

Re: High Gas Prices

I hate paying high gas prices in my CIVIC!!. With my standard transmission, I get ~35-40 mpg. I love it! Back when I bought my car in '99, it cost ~ 15 bucks to fill. Now it's more than double! I'm gonna try putting a small hydrogen generator in my CIVIC one day and see what kind of results I get.

I buy my gas from companies who get their fuel from within the states. Sunoco, Hess, BP I'd rather the $$$ stay in the US.

As you can see in my signature, I haven't filled my tank once yet! The gas prices haven't stopped me and I won't let it either. I may upgrade my tank from 75 gal to 85 gal. The wifey wants to go to the Bahamas. I don't know about that I told her. Maybe after a few years of boating, maybe.

Can't afford the high price of fuel any more. Downsized from a 23' CC with a 225 on her to a 14' Jon Boat with a 9.9. I was lucky to even sell the 23 footer. The market is totally flooded with used boats at bargain prices. I do miss the offshore thing, but at least I still get to dunk some bait.

There is very few things in life that says family as boating. Whether it be picnicing on a secluded shore, tubing, skiing, fishing or just driving for the first time, it doesn't get any better than boating.

I wasn't aware that Canada uses Imperial gallons. 1 US gallon = 3.785 liters
