Re: High Gas Prices

The gas prices just make me appreciate my 2.3 OMC even more. With tubing and fishing I go thru approx 40 gal/year. Still adds up but atleast it's managable.

Re: High Gas Prices

i plan on using my boat the same as always... at least once a week year round. gas on the water costs $4.75 a gallon now down here i south florida, but i trailer my little boat. the private ramp in my neighborhood is walking distance from my house. and i only have a 70hp with a 12 gallon tank so the fuel price going up is not a big deal. i use about $20 of gas for a day of fishing.

I plan to buy a smaller boat with a 4 stroke engine. You may be interested that gas costs $11 to 12 per gal;in England. I read an article that over $5.50 per gallon will seriously change boating habits.

Re: High Gas Prices

Been thinking about selling the boat due to cost of taking it out on the water, but it seems like there is one for sale on every corner so i guess i'll just enjoy it till it brakes me.

Re: High Gas Prices

Boats are for sale cheap everywhere you go around here, theres dozens in the paper, mostly all over 19'. You can't touch a small boat or small motor.
I'm debating on whether to bother with my original plans to hang a newer V4 on my 17' boat rather than the old 55 hp. It's slow but it's cheap to run. I find myself towing farther to save gas on the water. The truck runs cheaper than the boat.
I will most likely toss the 1 ton truck in favor of something smaller too, I refuse to pay that kind of money for gas. The big truck gets 10 mpg on a good day and the Ranger gets 24+, even though it struggles a bit and may not be as safe, it leaves me and I suppose many others no choice.
All sorts of businesses are closing around here, many trucking companies have shut down and any that run large fleets as part of their business.

I've seen gas as already well over $4/gal at the dock, and it's only bound to get higher. Several have signs up saying that if you don't buy gas their, don't launch there either. Many are carrying in their fuel. I fuel up at home and carry two extra tanks when needed. That way I can buy cheaper gas here and pre mix ahead of time. I've always tried to make sure I carry enough fuel, but now it's a must. I've also started to lock the gas cap on the truck, gas theft is rising fast. Both on boats and on tow vehicles.

Re: High Gas Prices

I will be on the water no matter what (unless we hit $5+ a gallon). The way I see it I have no room to complain about gas prices. We had a 1993 Accord (4 cyl. 28mpg) and a 1999 Eclipse (4 cyl 26mpg). Then I bought the boat (V8, 2.5 mpg). The Accord was replaced by a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee (I6, 19 mpg) since the accord could not pull the boat. Then the Eclipse was replaced by a 2003 Xterra (V6, 17 mpg) since the Eclipse was a POS (Valve Cover Gasket, Head Gasket, Speed Sensors, etc replaced) and the wife wanted something else since I had a new boat and a newer car.

I made my vehicle decisions and now I will live with them! But in reality, my jeep has a 20 gallon tank. At $2.25/g it was $45 to fill it up. At $3.25 it is $65 to fill it up. Well me and the wife have canceled our Saturday Lunch at Arbys............. The way I see it I may be paying $20 more a tank but that tank gets me to work and I make a LOT more than $65 a week at work....................
