The boat is really looking good, and I understand your problem with getting the color of the paint right.

On a humorous side you could paint the top two tone green, and use the paint you have for the hull. Paint some black seeds on the hull, and call it the “Water Melon”. :D

Sorry, was just a thought!

I think you have a real find on your hands, now you just need to get it properly titled in your name. Have you had any luck?

Looking great. You're really resurrecting that old girl. I like the proposed triangle shaped alternate paint color. Looks sharp with the shape of the Evinrude hood.

Well I forgot to mention that I got my title and registration in the other day.. They had to create a whole VIN boat hull number because there wasnt a plate or anything on th boat. Just a model number. So it them quite a while but it is officially MINE!!!! I was reading last night before bed about paint colors and ran across two kinds.. Rustroleum Topside and Benjamin Moores M22 Industrial ALkyd paint. What do you guys thinks. Interlux is just to expensive. for a boat that will be on the trailer most of the time during the week and then used on the weekend. The watermelon concept maybe a good choice.

Regular old rustoleum has held up well on my boat and I know Tashasdaddy has used it on numerous projects of his so I'm sure their marine paint is as good or better.

Re: Can not figure the Age of the boat Restoration Project!!

Hey fellow boats. I decided to go with Rustoelum Marine paint for my boat and I think I made a good choice after everyones thoughts and suggestions. I know its not the Tennessee Orange but I love the red. The pictures that follow are the first coat. I have put one more coat since then. My goal is to put 4 to 5 coats on total. Also If you remember there was a white stripe on the side. well in the pictures that follow it doesnt show it. But today I decidded per my wife and other iboat member to keep it. It goes with the boat. So today I masked off the white stripe to get it ready to paint it white when i am done with the red. I will keep the restoration pics going. Its getting closer and closer to being put back on the trailer!!!!!!!

I Rustoleum clear on my topsides to help bring out the metallic shine of the paint I was using. I didn't use it on the sides. It's up to you.

I also used Rustoleum, on the hull and the topside, but used no clear coat.

There was a limit of how much money I wanted to invest in the project, so although I would have liked to have done so, doing so would have pushed me over my budgeted maximum investment.

I will sell that boat next spring, and I want a small profit. If I had done it with the intention to keep for a long time I would have gone the extra mile.

I did wax and buff the hull to cut down on water spots and bring out the shine. The hull is black and shows ever thing, but the little time it took to buff it was well worth the effort. The top side is a metallic silver and all in all it has held up really well.

By the way, we really like the look now with the red you used.

Congratulations on the title and registration. Went through the same process here and received new numbers for my boat. It is now registered as a new, custom/homebuilt.

Is the clearcoat needed in order to make the paint last and continue to be shiny. If so what kind of clear coat. roll on or spray? Do they make it in industrial strength since the paint is marine I would not want to go with anything cheaper..

Re: Can not figure the Age of the boat Restoration Project!!

OK gang. I have done alot of work since My last post. As you can see in the photos. I took apart the old gray trailer and repainted with Rusto.. I rewired the lights but for some reason I am not getting any light from the side lights. Any suggestions?? I am getting the brakes and tailights. but no side lights. Also I am finally done painting the hull. 5 coats later and it is time to flip it back on the trailer. Almost done. I am starting to paint the topside and arrow on the side with Rusto Marine White Gloss. I will put 4 coats on this and put a nice red stripe down the top deck. Take a look at the pics and tell me what you think!!

Re: Can not figure the Age of the boat Restoration Project!!

Hey guys. Just a quick update. I have finally FINISHED PAINTING~~~~!!! Tomorrow after work I will be reinstalling the motor and cables. Almost there!!! I really appreciate having this website to document my journey. If it wasnt for this website I dont think I would have taken so many pictures or have done such a good job.. All your advice and ideas worked really well. I do have another question though. I am replacing the windshield with another plexy glass windshield. Will the stuff at Lowes and Home depot work. I wasnt sure if that stuff will bend to form.. I have a local glass shop I could call to see if they could do it but I wanted to do it myself. Any thoughts veterans????

I see this project has been ongoing for a few months but is my first read on it. Cool boat and nice job. Yes the acrylic and lexan from HomeDepot can be formed into a new shield...but why are you replacing the windshield? I'm looking for a shield like that if you want to sell it. Does it say "WaterBonnet" on the shield?

Tashasdaddy has had good luck with and recommends Lexan. I have no experience with it myself. I bought a used one off eBay for my boat and it worked out fantastically. Good job on the painting by the way. Can't wait to see some pics of it on the water.

Welll here it is!! The painting is done. I am now putting it back together. the pulley steering is a pain but i will get it done. I do have a question. I have that windshield and I went to price lexan and its soo expensive.. Theres nothing wrong with the windshield. Its just cloudy and some scratches.. Anyone got any suggestions as to how to clean or buff the scratches out so I wont have to replace it????? Is there any cleaners that work really well.
