Re: Can not figure the Age of the boat Restoration Project!!

It really looks good.

I am glad you saw this one through to the end. It is now “your” boat, not just a boat you bought from someone else. I especially like the ball control you used, old habits are hard to break.

Color combinations are right up my alley. Looks like a little Donzi. :D I am sure it will turn heads on the water.

I hope the weather holds out in your neck of the woods, so you and the pretty woman get to enjoy it awhile before winter sets in.

Don't forget we love pictures, stick around, and share some more with us.

Cheers and happy boating!

OK gang!!

After all this hard work and Sweat and Tears the boat is finally done. You ahve seen the pictures of the finished work.. Just my luck the motor is messed up again!!! Why is it that when you get soo close to being done the Boat Gods do this to you!!! Well before I took the boat apart the motor was running great doing 29 to 30 with 2 people. Now with the motor back on it wants to cut out. Not sure why That is why I am asking. I checked the float bowl and the carb and nothing is wrong. also Checked the wiring and seems fine. changed the spark plugs. fine.. Also checked the gas lines they seem fine. It will fire up but putter.. and when i give it gas it wants to bog down. I will sit there and play with the rich and lean and that doesnt seem to do anything unless i go real lean and it will cut out.. what i dont understand is that the motor just sat there during the painting process and nothing happened to it. so what changed???? HELP!!!

fellow boaters.. what do you guys think of Boatangel.org.. I have seen some pretty nice boats on there for real cheap. Is it a real thing or just a hoax to make money. Do you really get the boat for what they have it priced on Ebay. Give me your thoughts.

Looks amazing. Such a classic look. I bet you get a lot of compliments on it. I get a few on mine at the ramp sometimes and yours is way more classy than mine :)

First time seeing this resto...All I can say is it looks freaking fantastic! There are many of us that wish we were out on the water already. Not to mention the place you are boating in looks like its out of a fairy tale. Beautiful location! Congrats! :D

is that a electric shift motor? man if it is ur in some big trouble. porbably hundreds or dollars in trouble. clutch dog maybe only a hundred if u decide to fix it maybe. could be as easy as flipping ur clutch dog around or switching gears if i think of what ur problem is

first off what is your problem?

Sweet boat, looks like a crimson tide running back cutting through the volunteer's line!

Re: Can not figure the Age of the boat Restoration Project!!

well heres the problem. the engine is fine. but the lower unit is the issue. it will go in reverse fine but will slip in and out of forward. i took the lower unit off and noticed a huge crack on on the bottom. that tells me that oil hasnt been in the unit for awhile. so probably bad gears. bad clutch dog. or out of adjustment. even if i fix the gear problem i still wont be able to put oil in it. so i need to find a new lower unit... does that make sense. also the comment about UT... The BIGG ORange will surf right over that tide you call crimson.

You're best off starting in a new post in the Johnson/Evinrude forum. Way more people will look at it there and those guys know where to find old parts.

Re: Can not figure the Age of the boat Restoration Project!!

Found this thread after reading your thread on the J/E forum...about your lower unit. Surf on over to www.aomci.org and put a wanted ad in the free classifieds...someone there surely has the LU or clutch dog you need. Maybe even the bigger motor you mentioned. Saw a Johnson Fat Fifty on Craigslist/Texas recently for only $200...but those are heavy, thirsty motors. How much speed were you getting out of the 40 hp? How much motor you put on the transom depends on what it's rated for...there should be a capacity plate somewhere on your transom. A well-tuned 35 or 40 hp should make it scoot pretty good. As for your windshield, get some Meguiars plastic cleaner and polish...two products. They will spiff your windshield up to like new. Sweet looking boat and Evinrude.
