Well, it looks to me like your core samples are ok. I'd say fix everything and anything that's known to be bad and button her up and go have fun.

Great to hear.I'll definitely have more questions as I go on. I looked at the pontoon seating, and it actually looks to be no higher than my current stuff, so that would work. Took some measurements and am going to get some quotes from upholsterers. I'll update as I go on.

Another update. Went to put some 5200 in the holes and noticed a hollow area right next to my pilot hole(see pic). Some screwdriver diagnosis led to a wet spot behind the glass with maybe 1/8" rot. Scraping/drilling further revealed that behind that small wet area the transom was still dry and solid. This was to the far port side of the transom. I was concerned, so then drilled another hole farther down and starboard. That seemed fine, which is good/weird. What should I do with this isolated(?) Spot?

Dig it out as best you can and then use some 5 min epoxy and some fine sawdust to make some thickened resin and use a plastic putty knife to fill over it.

I have some West system 404 that should do the trick. Any reason not to just epoxy all the holes, or is 5200 better? Hate to waste 95% of a tube...

Thanks. Managed to start er up today for the first time this season as well, at least that doesn't appear to be an issue yet this year. Here's the game plan :
1) get 1/4" treated ply. Read about some brand that's apparently superior stuff, but barring that, I guess I'll just get the best stuff I can find. I have a local lumber yard
2) coat it in resin to prep, then fasten/resin/glass/resin? Since I'll be matching it to the existing decking, I'm thinking polyester?
3) remove rest of carpeting. How do I get rid of the residue? Sanding seems like a bad idea. Any chemicals?
. . - if I get rid of the residue, I paint the deck with oil enamel
. . - if not, I get those non slip mats
4) took some measurements. Going to get some upholstery quotes
4b) install new seats
5) finish the shower in the bathroom before my wife kills me
6) hopefully go boating at some point

One other question, esp for snowman246 (in addition to those above):
Is there additional flotation in the boat, or is it all beneath the seat boxes (which are going away)? If the latter, should I pour in some more?

Mine has two foam boxes in the rear corners of the boat. I made the boxes larger to make up the difference from under the seats since I installed pedestal bases. I'm also pouring some under the floor in a few spots.

About to buy some materials, need some clarification on what I need:
1. Plywood. Saw some talk about aruaco. Short of that, any specs i should look for?
2. After some reading, epoxy seems preferable to poly for blending into my poly deck. Do i need glass with that? If so, is it 10 oz e glass cloth?
3. How much epoxy? I have a 10sq ft area.
4. Pour in foam? How much?

I see (kind of) an answer to #2, but nothing about whether it's necessary/preferable to use the epoxy with fabric, and if so what type of fabric. 3 and 4 i can probably figure out, but would like to get the correct plywood

Arauco is really good if you can find it. Any Ext. Grade will work since they ALL use Waterproof glue in their laminations. Fir Laminations would be preferable.

Your boat is made from poly so poly will work if you grind down to good fresh glass. If you don't then epoxy is a better adhesive and will make up for poor prep work.
I'd us 8.5oz e-glass if you use epoxy. If you use Poly I'd use 1708 biaxial.

3. How much epoxy? I have a 10sq ft area.
A quart of either should do 10 sqft.

4. Pour in foam? How much?
How many cubic feet are you filling with the foam? Length x Width x Height (inches) divided by 1728 will give you cubic feet.
A 4# kit of 2lb Foam will fill 2 cubic ft of space.

Thanks, I'll go with the epoxy and the 8.5. Not much more for that area, and I'd rather have some forgiveness in the prep. I guess I'll measure what I removed from the seat bases, and pour that amount under the deck. I'll look for the aruaco, but won't knock myself out about it. Next update will hopefully be of the finished deck...

Changed my mind and went with poly. Been super busy and haven't had time to deal with the boat. When I finished testing everything apart, I saw that the stringers were totally exposed up front (see pics). Not sure how they're not wood soup by this point. I'm going to try to glass them best that I can; seems like I should, right? There was a cross member there that was rotted, and I'll replace that as well. Silly question, but when I prep the floor I'm using wax glass for the bottom and sides, right?

Yeah, adding the wax to the glass to help it cure. My terminology might be off...
