Drop the trailer. You can push the boat to the water now. Same here with the rain. Had to use heat lamps to dry up water and moved the entire deck pcs. into my basment. Althoughed sealed just tired of thinkin of raon getting on them. To boot my super tarp split and another will be here tomorrow.
The cover is tarps and tarps and now a new tarp.
When done I'll pay for a SUPER tarp.
Looking good Rem!

Thx KC. When I rip a tarp it becomes a drop cloth. I have some old big ones I'l be using when I paint the boat and trailer.

Was hoping I could do it myself, but had to enlist the Admirals help. I couldn't get the boat back far enough to lift the whole thing, So used the hoist on the stern and lifted the bow while she pulled the trailer out far enough for me to lower the stern onto the rear cradle then did the same while she positioned the forward piece. The important things - it sits well, it's solid and it sure rolls easily in any direction.

Dang that is one ugly trailer. Can't wait to tear it to pieces. If the weather gives me a break tomorrow night, it's "break out the big impact driver" time. Don't think my little one is going to do it.

Pluses for the trailer - rolls easily, tracks well and fits the boat perfectly. Most of the rust is just light surface rust with no heavy scale anywhere I've looked. Have all new keel rollers and new roller bunks to install. I'm debating whether to keep the old front supports and carpet them or replace them with wobble rollers. I'll have plenty to keep me busy until I decide.

I appreciate the comments guys, but with under 53" between the insides of the gunwales even if I made a 20" console I'd only have 16" on the port side and 14" to squeeze past the controls on the starboard. I have some friends that couldn't make it through that if you buttered them :)

The rain turned last night into a bust so I ran up to Farm & Fleet to pick up paint samples to go over with the Admiral for the trailer and look at some seats they have on sale.

Tonight the sun was back, so I made some decent progress stripping the trailer. About all that's left are the wheels, axle, fenders and springs.

Trailer work is the worst but everything rides on it so the work has to be done.

I really like the Wise seats with contrasting colors they do now like these and the ones I put in my SS, they're made fairly well too for being imported.

Weather sucked tonight, but I got a good 30-40 minutes in before it started to pour again. Really wanted to get enough apart for better measurements on replacement u-bolts. As it turns out, 2 of the 13 I had guessed at and already picked up were correct  . Oh well, was planning on heading back to Menards Saturday anyway.

That big impact wrench is a beast. Snapped off 3 bolts including a 1/2" plus it snapped the head clean off my old Husky 3/4" box wrench (Made in USA, not china crap)

Wheels and fenders are now off, axle assembly off and disassembled and tongue separated.

I just finished my trailer but still a long way to go on the boat, agree that they become a project themselves and with my trailer being 50 years old I wanted to be sure on the safety.

Piddly stuff today. I laid out all the parts I either couldn't find direct replacements for or were cost prohibitive trying to stay relatively in budget.

Derust1.jpg

Setup 4 stations. Warm de-grease, hot rinse, rust remover bath (Sunnyside made by Sherwin-Williams) and 8" wire wheel. The wheel probably wasn't necessary, but did a decent job on some of the parts I was able to hang on to although I had some trouble when it would grab an edge. I ran out of steam after 5 hours straight and put everything not brushed that would fit in the bath and piled the smaller pieces that were brushed on top.

I'm using Krud Cutter Rust Reformer (made by Rustoleum) on everything anyway before priming.

looks like it cleaned up well are you going to treat it with some type of rust preventative before painting?
