Today was a day of highs and lows. Got the rest of the inner gunwale trim done with a brushed satin finish. Took it home after work, applied some DAP flexible wood putty over all the countersunk rivets in the deck and proceeded to install the trim.
Problem #1 - not enough clearance to use the air riveter, so I grabbed my old hand one. My arthritis has been flaring badly lately so I really didn't want to do that.
Problem #2 - after the first 10 rivets the 40 year old riveter broke
Problem #3 - ran up to HF to find none of their riveters have a head small enough to work
Came home, grabbed my dinner and started researching on the internet. Learned about using an aluminum wedge for close riveting, so I went to my workshop and made a crude one. Ran out in the dark with a head light and was able to successfully rivet a dozen rivets with the air unit and the wedge.
I can see why they suggest making several wedges since it's pretty beaten up after 12 rivets, but at least I know what to do now and I wont have to beat myself up with a hand unit. About 30 rivets left to do.
