Re: Thanks for the help.

Just wanted to say what a great place this is and that folks like Dhadley, Joe Reeves, Walker,OBJ, Walleyehead (didn't intend to leave anybody out), stop during their busy day and read the constant barrage of motor problems that us neophytes and backyard motor maulers throw at them. I can't imagine what possesses these folks to want to hear about the mostly mundane and exhaustively repetitive problems I (and others) have posted on this forum. Yet every time when I come back here, these folks and others are here as if they were being paid to sit at a hotline desk to deal with our issues. I often read the posts and just amaze myself with the wealth of knowledge available to us provided by people whose sole motivation is in the satisfaction of giving a poor slob like me a bit of info that makes my leisure life a little better. I have taken some outboard repair courses at the local Votech school and the knowledge I receive here greatly overshadows the $150 worth of classes and info I gained there. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. There is no better feeling than fixing a problem with the guidance of your expertise.

Re: Thanks for the help.

yeppers to that salty.<br /><br />It is very satisfying to fix it yourself. You know what has been done, you can see what may need doing in the future, and you save a fistfull of dollars at the same time.<br /><br />The guys already mentioned (you know who you are) are absolute God-sends. The fact that many of them do this for a living (repair outboards) and still give their knowledge on these forums for free is a true sign of their heart. <br />They give selflessly, when most marine mechs will tell you "yeah mate, I know what causes that problem.... bring it in and I'll have a look, shouldn't cost you more than about 800 or 900 bucks"<br /><br />Just remember everyone out there, time is money these days, and these guys give it to us for free.

Re: Thanks for the help.

Not being an outboard or otherwise mechanic person i've had some great advice fom this column so THANKS!! It makes the difference between having the confidence to have a go, or letting the boat sit in the shed for eons. The outboard techs in my town prefer to work on the newer stuff and quite frankly give me a cramp so this forum is a godsend. Good onya'z.

Re: Thanks for the help.

I'd like to throw out thanks to just about everyone on here. Everyone on this forum makes it what it is, a place to have fun, share knowledge, and get things running right for the first time or again. There isn't a place like this on the web, or for that matter anywhere where I live and do business. Sure the hometown boat mechanic can spit out some suggestions, but where I live, they're out to make a quick buck not to see you out on the water as soon as possible. Everyone saves everyone alot of time and frusteration, not to mention a couple of bucks here and there. From one person to another someone has something to offer here. Nothing like a job well done, and this place is just somewhere to get a little kickstart. Thanks again guys, I owe alot of bucketmouths in the boat to ya'll!

Re: Thanks for the help.

I have only just read some of the kind words that have been left by grateful members of this forum for the help that they have received, and I too would like to express my heart felt thanks to the gentlemen that have and continue to help me with the problems that I have encountered.<br />As with many things in life there is no substitute for experience. <br />Finally I would like to say a special thank you to CATransplant who has helped me on a number of occassions. Even over the internet he has come across as an absolute gentleman and has reinforced the fact that the only thing that seperates the good people of the US and we here in the UK is the language.<br />My very best wishes to you all and thankyou again.<br /><br />Regards<br />Tich :)

Re: Thanks for the help.

I'm very apprecative of this site. Altought I couldn't fix the problem myself I was able to speak with some knowledge and rule out simple solutions. Dhadley called it bad connection in the kill switch wire at the harness end pulled to tight. It takes some courage to try and jump in and help someone with problem sight unseen opening yourself to embrassment and criticism, I personally am very gratefull. Thanks

Re: Thanks for the help.

Like everyone else I too would like to thank all the knowledgable folks that take the time to answer mine and everyone elses questions. I would not know even a fraction of what I know now if it wasn't for this forum. And I know that I will keep on learning as long as this forum exists. <br />I have learned somethings the hard way, by myself. But when I wanted to learn them the right way, I learned it right here. Everything from water safety, water curtesy, fixin things, buying advise, where to find things. Oh yeah and did I mention the fact that when I do something goofy, I can always do a search on here and find that I am not the only goof on the water. Course thats jsut for my ego.<br /><br /><br />THANKS!!!

Re: Thanks for the help.

I just wanted to post a quick thanks once again to all the kind folks here who helped my out during a complete overhaul of my father-in-law's 1986 70 Johnson. There was at least 10-15 old posts here that helped me avoid common problems and solve other issues during this rebuild. The boat is in the water now and running better than ever. I'm so greatful for the help many people provided, some without even knowing it. :D <br /><br />I want to send a special thanks to J Reeves. Your "WOT timing without killing yourself" trick is simply awesome. An $8 spark tester and 10 minutes and I feel confident that timing the is accurate. <br /><br />You guys rock! Thanks!
