Just purchased a 2002 Wellcraft 190 Excalibur Platinum series with a 3.0 Volvo Penta. The engine serial number tag has been completely rubbed off and the engine model and serial number are illegible. How else can I find my exact engine type?

Sounds like your solenoid went out. Trace the wires up to this thing:
What happens when you put a screwdriver across both large terminals? Does the engine roll over? ..but not when you turn the key?
