    Catfishing On The James 9/15/12

We started off good with a 30lbr and a 20lbr in the boat right away, but we just couldn't find any more big cats for the rest of the evening. Had a few more in the teens, but no more pigs after the 30. Good night though. Only fished about 6 hours and had pretty steady action all night. The...

Bar B Que pits?---GOT ER DUN!

Re: Bar B Que pits? Re: Bar B Que pits? $50 Coleman grill. 2 $9 heavy duty angle brackets, 2 scraps of aluminum bent into a Z for the bottom legs and I have a nice compact grill for my toon for a fraction of the price of a pre-built one... The holes in the angle bracket just happened to...

    6/26 James River Catfishing

Caught this one last night about 30 minutes into my first spot. 61lbs and my second biggest blue cat to date. It was a blast fighting it in and landing it by myself. I was walking on sunshine after the release!

    Keeping the Boat Still

Re: Keeping the Boat Still I usually cut the head off just behind the eyes, then make another cut just behind the pec fins. This gives a nice bloody hunk with brain/gill tissue on one end and the heart at the other. Of course the shad we use are a little bigger than those I've seen being used...

Where to store fishing poles on a Toon...

Re: Where to store fishing poles on a Toon... I also use PVC tubes for securing my rods out of the way. I still lay them down on the deck when trailering to avoid hitting any low hanging branches along the road to the marina. Dont trust PVC for fishing from though. Not for big fish anyways.

    Rod holders?

Re: Rod holders? As an avid fisherman who fishes almost exclusively from a toon I can honestly say that I would not trust any of my rods to any of the rod holders listed so far in this thread. They will all work well for little fish like bluegill or crappie, but they either wont hold up to...

    Ignition wired wrong?

I traded for a pontoon boat last week and when looking it over the previous owner showed me how to had to manipulate the key in a funny way to get the motor to start and the starter to disengage. After getting it home and starting to work on it I realized that the ignition switch may in fact be...

    Throttle/shifter assembly proplem

I just traded for a 1978 Harris pontoon and one of the things I needed to fix was some yahoo mounted the throttle control box on the left side of the steering console and turned it 90 degrees. (top facing back keys down) Today I bolted a board to the rail to the right of the steering console and...

Why it's a good idea to check the impeller on a new boat...

Well, not a new boat, but new to me anyways.... Took me forever and a lot of pounding and wedging to get the lower to drop. That was my first indication that it had been a while since the last impeller change. Stuck the new one in the photo for comparison. I don't know how, but the old one was...

    Dropping lower unit on a 76' 115

Getting ready to do an impeller change on my '76 155ETL76. Last one I did was on a 1998 40hp mercury about 5 years ago. That one went easy. Just had to put it in forward gear, undo all the bolts, wiggle it a bit and it dropped right out. Putting it back in was nearly as easy. Being new to owning...

    Choke problems on a '76 115

I'm having problems with a 76 Johnson choke solenoid. The motor ran great untill I had a short in the hot wire coming off the rectifier. Replaced the rectifier and the motor would crank, but blow the 20A fuse as soon as I bumped the choke switch. The choke solenoid was badly rusted and seemed to...
