    Boat Check list

Unless we are talking about different things....

    Boat Check list

hahaha without a list I'd probably sink the boat forgetting to put the drain plug in. Years of pilot training have me relying on check lists.

    Boat Check list

Raise drive unit is definitely on there. Put that one after I drove up with ramp with the leg down. Luckily my trailer is high enough that I have about an inch clearance even fully down.

    Boat Check list

As boating season kicks into high gear, I though I would share the boat check list I created. I have been updating each year to make things more efficient during chaotic situations. Hoping this helps or inspires others.

That's a good catch. Difficult to find I am sure.

    New motor knocking???

Probably bearings with that oil/water mix.

    New motor knocking???

Water in oil. I would be concerned the internals are trashed. Check for metal in that oil and in the filter. Water in oil will make it froth, not surprising so oil to the lifters. High oil pressure, no flow. Probably best to start the warranty process and hope it wasn't those exhaust manifolds.

No water out transom or exhaust

No, that is not odd. You need to work through the system. First replace the impeller, then verify water is getting to the thermostat housing. Disconnect any hose where the water is coming in from the impeller based on the diagram above. The water should even exit the system if the water pump...

    Engine failure?

How much water came out of the cylinders? Water in all of the cylinders or one side? Be sure you get all of the water out of the oil pan also. Maybe take a couple oil changes.

Carbed Mercruiser 260 5.7L Missing Above 4000 RPMs

I had a random miss for a couple months only to figure out the ICM was going bad. Had a friend with the same engine so I used his and the problem went away. Replaced the ICM and haven't had the problem since. Costly part though.

    Engine failure?

Yes. Those are 2-piece and after market. I have heard the GLM is the lowest quality after market version. Some like it cause it is also the cheapest. You probably have a decent amount of water in the pan or still in the cylinders. Turn over the engine with the plugs out and see how much comes...

Does this oil look bad to you? (white smoke coming out of breather tube)

My understanding is that agitated oil does not lubricate engines very well. Maybe that oil was thin and burning rather than lubricating.

    Engine failure?

I might be more worried about bending a push rod or damaging a valve.

    New 01 Bayliner 4.3 MC...have a few questions

The Barr kit I purchased came with all the components - even the hose clamps and bolts. I did replace the gaskets with the OEM gaskets.

    New 01 Bayliner 4.3 MC...have a few questions

I agree with the spark plugs options mentioned above. As for the 2 piece manifold, just know that you get what you pay for. There are cheap versions that may cause more problems then they are worth. I thought the mercruiser OEM parts were too expensive so I went with BARR. There is plenty of...

    New 01 Bayliner 4.3 MC...have a few questions

Count the number of bolts on the intake manifold. 8 bolts means Vortec heads. Serial number should also help confirm. If you are still uncomfortable, you could place the plug and rotate engine by hand slowly to ensure no clearance issue...

    New 01 Bayliner 4.3 MC...have a few questions

They are likely OEM. Though, it should end with a "C" and not "X". Everything will be figured out when (or if) you find the serial number. I think the issue was to determine why batwings were used in a 2001 boat (possible replacement engine). As mentioned earlier, the engine is probably a 2000...

    New 01 Bayliner 4.3 MC...have a few questions

Negative. I have a 1998 Vortec with batwings. Just replaced them over winter.

    New 01 Bayliner 4.3 MC...have a few questions

The valve covers probably say VORTEC. Better to count the bolts on the intake manifold to know if it is a true vortec head. I suspect yes.

    New 01 Bayliner 4.3 MC...have a few questions

I can't help with every question but I have the same engine (likely earlier vintage ). The manual shows AC-MR43LTS, Champion - RS12YC, or NGK-BPR6EFS as spark plug options. I believe you have the wrong spark plugs. I also see that you have the batwing exhaust manifolds. Most people would...
