No water out transom or exhaust

The impeller is in the outdrive and it won't get damaged if you have the muffs on correctly and the water running. The only risk you run is overheating the engine. Air in the system is not your problem. Your problem is probably the impeller in your outdrive. Was it replaced in the off season...

    Mercruiser 3.0 Rebuild or not

I would not think about a rebuild yet. The compression values are fine. Replace exhaust and replace oil several time as previously suggested.

1996 4.3 Mercruiser water in my oil? Hoping not!

I don't get it. You replaced your entire engine because the exhaust manifold had a leak? Was the cylinder rusted or the compression poor? I assume the leak in the manifold was confirmed. In that case, I would also change the riser so they have the same life expectancy. I am also sure those...

Cold water coming out the prop and not much out ports

Completely agree. Very easy to misalign - especially when only the lower half is removed. It is easier to take the entire drive off and drop the upper on the lower to ensure things get aligned. I have done it with only removing the lower but it was much more difficult.

Cold water coming out the prop and not much out ports

That does look like the schematic you should be used. I wouldn't worry about taking those hoses off. All the water goes into the T housing anyway and you clearly verified no water in there. I know a lot of people have issues with the replacement GLM manifold and risers - mostly related to the...

Cold water coming out the prop and not much out ports

I believe this is your cooling system. The blue line shows the path from the transom/outdrive. I circled the hoses that I would check for water. I also indicated the location for the oil cooler. If the boat was working before you messed with the outdrive then that is clearly the problem. You...

Cold water coming out the prop and not much out ports

I believe the bottom right hose on the T stat is from the outdrive/impeller. The bottom left should be to the water circ pump and the top two should go to the manifolds. That is for reference. IF there is no water coming into the T stat as you mentioned, then it is likely the impeller. I would...

Cold water coming out the prop and not much out ports

Pulling the hose ask Rick suggested will indicate if there is debris in the line/oil cooler or the issue is the outdrive/impeller. Work your way back from the T housing.

Cold water coming out the prop and not much out ports

Hopefully I can help clear up the flow directions. The diagram shows all of the components within the boat. The water goes from the outdrive into the boat via an impeller. The water is carried through hose "A" as shown in the diagram. The water travels into thermostat housing where it is...

Cold water coming out the prop and not much out ports

The figure shown is not for a closed system. The diagram is for raw water cooling with a warm water manifold system. You need to trace where the water is being stopped at. Check the impeller, then the circulating water pump. I believe the restrictor gaskets can only be oriented in one...

Throw out the one piece manifolds and water pump?

Thank you everyone for the replies.

Throw out the one piece manifolds and water pump?

Sounds like scrap yard it is. Luckily the boat hasn't hydrolocked. The risers have been on the boat for 23 years (in fresh water only). They didn't look bad when I took them off but I've read the horror stories enough to know it was time to take care of the issue. The pump has the extra...

Throw out the one piece manifolds and water pump?

I removed the one-piece manifolds from the 4.3L and replaced with the 2 piece manifold riser setup. In the process, I noticed the water pump was failing so I replaced that as well. Should I throw the parts out or is there a way to get some money back? Cast iron is about $5/ hundred lbs in my...

4.3L oil pan dipstick tube fitting & Manifolds

I think you are right. I never torque the drain plug in the truck after an oil change, just go by feel. I'll probably do the same here. The fitting was original to the boat and may have been weakened over the years. The surface on the oil pan is flat and I have a new gasket for the fitting...

4.3L oil pan dipstick tube fitting & Manifolds

All, I have been getting rid of some oil leaks this offseason. One of the leaks is at the oil pan to dipstick tube fitting. I replaced the gasket and was torquing the fitting down when the fitting broke at the treads (part # 807804). I was at about 8 ft-lb. I am not sure if the bolt was weak or...
