    Peanut Butter PB mess

My peanut butter repairs are for two purposes. Leveling out the hatches as they had dished in void areas around the plywood stiffeners (these recesses are as much as 1/2 inch deep). Filling holes in hatches as I plan to change from top hinge to piano hinge and holes around the cap to hull at the...

1984 warning horn melted New part fit? Wiring ?

0585992 is the original part number what new part numbers will fit? The old one was just round with tab coming off the side for the screw. The new ones look like they have wires attached while the old one just had tabs for flag connector. Voltage at the purple and tan wire was 2.8 volts and I...

E100WTLCRS 84 100hp tach dropping out during throttle up

About to my wits end. Just got back from lake to try my latest repair(new coil). Spark gap tester now showed(haven't checked again since I got home) good 7/16 spark on all cylinders. During throttle up (attempt to plane off) the tach is dropping out and as soon as I pull back on throttle the...

Carb rebuild mistakes on 1984 100 HP (typical v4 crossflow)

What are some of the common mistakes us rookies might make during carb rebuild. I installed two new kits and all new jets after checking old ones with pin gages and found them oversized. Removed the core with drilled hole and awl and everything was spotless cleaned before re-assembly. Float open...

    1984 100 hp evinrude e100wtlcrs retorquing heads

Water is dripping from (hard to see while floating at the lake) starboard lower cylinder head area. It is dripping on the new cylinder head hose area. I have retorqued the heads once after break-in (book says 18-20 ft lbs.) Is it sometimes needed to tightened up to a higher torque? Say 22 or 25...

E100 WTLCRS no spark one cylinder

During the break in period of my recent rebuild above 3000 rpm it would be running along fine then "hiccup" for just a second then go back to running fine. It would only do this like every 10-20minutes or so. I thought bad gas. Well the "hiccup" got worse and i do not think it is gas any longer...

    Power Pack black/yellow wire 84 100 hp E100WTLCRS

Guys, When people mention disconnecting the black/yellow wire at the powerpack does this mean using pin removal tool to pull pin out of Amphenol connector? Or removing the wire at the terminal strip? Just trying to learn where for reference. I think my kill system is fine.

How to Remove Carbs Johnson 115 v4

Re: How to Remove Carbs Johnson 115 v4 The carbs are held onto the intake with nuts and lock washers 56 and 9. The studs (4 on each carb) are fixed in the intake. To get to these you have to take the air silencer 15 (black cover). Then take off 10 (have to disconnect throttle and shift cables...

    evinrude 90hp

Re: evinrude 90hp I think you have two temp sensors and one low oil sensor. All three of these have a tan wire that go to the red plug and then to the horn in the control. If any of these three are shorted to ground(just like the sensor sending signal) you will get the horn. If you removed the...

Help Disconnecting the shift rod linkage

Re: Help Disconnecting the shift rod linkage See number 85 in exploded diagram and the shift rod screw in the upper right corner. That looks like it in your photo. Can you see the shift rod (has flat on this end and bend) riding in a slot just on the other side of this? On mine you need a...

Spark Gap Tester and Joe Reeves method and backfire 84 100hp

Guys, I have a question about Joe Reeves timing method. Why do you need to hook up a spark gap tester to set the timing? My 84 100hp that I have just finished the 10 hr. break in on my 1st rebuild but there is a backfire (I think) every 20 minutes or so above 3200 rpm so I think I have a...

V4 rebuild 84 crossflow 100hp Photos of old parts

Re: V4 rebuild 84 crossflow 100hp Photos of old parts Here are the after photos. 10 hour break in is done. It is working but I have a backfire about every 20 minutes. I think I need to set the timing. I tried not to change any of the linkages on the carbs. One other symptom is kind of hard to...

    Stuffing wiring V4 100hp crossflow

Guys, On the port side of V4 you have tilt/trim wire harness, Battery wires, main wiring harness, fuel lines. This seems like trying to stuff a turkey. What order should these be in? E100WRLCRS 100 hp. And is it really crowded around the red plug? Thanks, Ed

Temp Sensor Vacuum Sensor wiring 84 crossflow 100hp

The vacuum switch has one lead that goes to ground. The other lead goes to an insulated lug on the bracket. The wiring has twin tan (labeled V) wires with a ring terminal that goes to this insulated lug. The wiring diagram shows one tan wire on the boat side wiring harness and 3 tan wires on...

V4 rebuild 84 crossflow 100hp Photos of old parts

1st warm weekend was in Feb. and that is when I tore into my 1984 Evinrude 100hp.
