5.7 EFI stalls when warm and shifting into gear

One thing I noticed is when I rev it up in neutral and then put the shift lever in neutral, the IAC Follower parameter decrements at twice the rate of the IAC Position parameter on the scan tool until both reach zero. I assume the zero count is the plunger is seated against the throttle body...

5.7 EFI stalls when warm and shifting into gear

There are no vacuum leaks - I sprayed carb cleaner along the cylinder to intake manifold interfaces on both sides along with the throttle body base and there was no change in idle. I decided to take a gamble and purchase and install the IAC that Advance Auto Parts had in stock but it was...

5.7 EFI stalls when warm and shifting into gear

I'll take a look this evening if it is not raining. I had the IAC out last night and the plunger head that contacts the port in the throttle body was spotless - no buildup whatsoever. I'm not sure on the plunger shaft though. When the engine is at idle, all three IAC parameters on the scan...

5.7 EFI stalls when warm and shifting into gear

Where would I check for a vacuum leak? Where the intake mates with the cylinder heads? The three IAC parameters on the Rinda Techmate Pro are IAC position, IAC Base Position and IAC Follower. Are those defined as: IAC commanded position from ECM, IAC Minimum count, and actual IAC position...

5.7 EFI stalls when warm and shifting into gear

The only hose that resembles a vacuum hose is the one that is from the cool fuel module to the flame arrester and I don't think that is a vacuum hose. I did remove the oil fill cap and spray a shot of carb. cleaner inside the valve cover and there was no change in engine RPM. The shop manual...

5.7 EFI stalls when warm and shifting into gear

The MAP sensor plugs into a port on the throttle body - there's no hose/tube that I know of. I can also see the MAP sensor readings change with throttle position/RPM.

5.7 EFI stalls when warm and shifting into gear

I double checked that the timing was 8° in base timing mode this evening and once I took it out of the set timing mode, after the idle stabilized, the engine died but would restart with a slight amount of throttle in neutral. This was while running on the trailer with hose muffs. I restarted...

5.7 EFI stalls when warm and shifting into gear

Engine serial no. 0K007751 350 TBI engine. I recently replaced the engine due to zero compression in cylinders 3 & 5 due to fire-slotting of the block and head. I have the base timing set at 8° per the service manual. When I leave the dock, it is all fine. The problem occurs when the engine...

How much power steering fluid does the system take (dual 5.7 Alpha 1 Gen 1)

I just did that job as part of an engine replacement. Mine is a Alpha 1 gen 2 but the systems are probably similar if not identical. It took just about 1 quart. You bled the system, set the level to the full cold mark and it is now below the full cold mark? There is a leak - trace the lines...

1997 Mercruiser 5.7 EFI blown head gasket

The remanufactured engine is in the boat, the base timing has been set to 8° BTDC and seems to run fine. The engine vendor where I bought the engine told be to verify the total timing and I attempted to do that with it running on hose muffs. At 2400 RPM, the total timing was 38° advanced and...

Throttle cable adjustment dimension 5.7 EFI

I had the base timing close yesterday but after a conversation with the remanufactured engine supplier, I got the base timing exactly at 8° before TDC tonight and the stalling issue went away. I need to install the stern seat and then it's time to take it out on Lake Michigan for a trial run.

Throttle cable adjustment dimension 5.7 EFI

I have an old OBD-1 scan tool for automotive but I'm fairly sure the diagnostic connector is different between the marine and the GM automotive application. I unplugged the IAC motor and tested the four pins on the wire harness with a test light and it illuminated and blinked when the ignition...

Throttle cable adjustment dimension 5.7 EFI

I tested the IAC tonight and it extended with the ignition on and retracted with the ignition off. I started the engine and it idled perfectly but once the engine came up to operating temperature, it stalled and would not restart unless I gave it some throttle. I had an idea to spray the IAC...

Throttle cable adjustment dimension 5.7 EFI

Thank you very much! I'll try that this evening. It's strange that it was OK before the swap. Everything has been fighting me on this project.

Throttle cable adjustment dimension 5.7 EFI

How would I test the idle air control motor? It is strange that I did not have this issue before the engine swap.

Throttle cable adjustment dimension 5.7 EFI

The boat is a 1997 model year and the original engine's serial no. was 0K007751 which matches the label on the electrical box cover and the tag on the original engine. It is not a Vortec motor.

Throttle cable adjustment dimension 5.7 EFI

Thanks. I should probably post another thread that is more descriptive of the symptom. I am in the process of replacing my engine due "fire notching of the block and head which lead to a loss of compression on cylinders 3 & 5. I followed the instructions with the remanufactured engine on how...

Throttle cable adjustment dimension 5.7 EFI

What is the dimension between the barrel and the throttle cable end on a Mercruiser 5.7 EFI? Is the dimension from the barrel hole to the hole in the cable end or some other feature on the end of the cable?

Assembling exhaust manifolds, risers and elbows - Loctite 510?

Can you clarify? The illustration I posted from the service manual seems to show a bead of sealant around all the holes whether rectangular or round. The perfect seal is thin - do I just put it around the round holes in the gaskets or coat the entire surfaces of both sides? I have studs that...
