I have a 2013 E-Tec 250 HP Outboard, Motor runs fine with the exception of dying when shifting from either Forward to Neutral or Reverse to Neutral. It restarts just fine and shifts from Neutral to either forward or reverse ok, just not from either gear to neutral. Someone suggested it's the...

    Cleaning Product for Hypalon Dinghy

Tried the West Marine cleaning products to clean my Dinghy, nothing seems to remove the faded look. Short of having a complete restoration what is the trick to bring back the new look? The product I've been using does clean the boat, but I guess I'm looking to get that new look back. Jerry

New (Out of Box) BF20D Over Heating

Took off the lower unit today and found the impeller in pieces, replaced with new unit and everything tested fine. When we originally set it up out of the box we were using the flushing ears, some of the different posts I was reading suggested that the ears might of had low pressure and didn't...

New (Out of Box) BF20D Over Heating

Purchased a new (What seemed to be Out of Box) 20 HP BF20D tiller motor, followed all the setup up instructions for starting a new motor. Added Oil/Gas & checked the lower unit for gear oil. Motor fired right up using rabbit ear for cooling, never got any water coming from the pee hole. Motor...

How do I test a starter solenoid that's attached to a starter? (20' Shamrock 2001)

Thanks, I didn't realize there was a second solenoid, I didn't see it. Must be under a cover, I'll take a look and test both as you describe. Jerry

How do I test a starter solenoid that's attached to a starter? (20' Shamrock 2001)

My friend has a 20' Shamrock with an inboard Chevy motor, the starter is intermittent and need to figure out if it could be the starter solenoid or some other issue before the solenoid. If I could find a wiring schematic I might be able to figure it out, searched google but unable to locate a...

Thanks, Just went through the same thing, had it checked out and found other problems inside. Ordered a replacement as the rebuild would have cost more to repair.

1988 200 HP Mercury Outboard (Starter Rebuild)

I have a 1988 200 HP Mercury Outboard, The starter started making some noise so I removed the cowling to inspect. The pinion gear has worn down and started skipping causing the noise, is there a place where you can just order the pinion gear? The starter seems to function fine? Starter No...

1988 Merc 200 HP Smoking during warmup.

I have a 1988 200 HP Mercury that smokes excessively during startup, once it's warmed up it's back to hardly any smoke and runs great. The big issues is that it stays in the Marina, if I don't leave (Fishing) early in the morning everyone at the docks complains about the smoke. Coming home isn't...

    1990Yamaha 175 Steering Issue?

Alright.. (Final Update) I tried laying it on a flat surface with the Powerhead lower then the prop, filled the cylinder with brake fluid over a 2 day period. I just put it back on the stand and tried moving it again. Although it seem a little easier then before it was still hard to move. Put...

    1990Yamaha 175 Steering Issue?

Progress Update: Been trying the different suggestions on this post, I have gone from No movement at all using a a big hammer to being able to move it back/forth using a pipe as a prybar. It's not loose enough yet for even hydraulic steering to move it but am making progress. This weekend I'll...

    1990Yamaha 175 Steering Issue?

After reading your reply last week I did find a zerk fitting on the lower section of the steering tube, I removed the zerk fitting and tried spraying a lubricant in the hole. Didn't work very good, I then purchased a good new grease gun and filled it with a lubricant and pumped it in, seem to go...

    1990Yamaha 175 Steering Issue?

I've raised the motor in an attempt to find the Zerk fittings, don't see any anywhere on the tube. I did purchase a manual but it's to generic to give any good information for this type of issues. Also doesn't seem like there's a place spraying any kind of penetrating oil would work. I'll keep...

    1990Yamaha 175 Steering Issue?

After a little checking it seems the "steering Tube" is frozen and doesn't let the motor move at all, I originally listed it as a steering problem and didn't get any advice. Now, I need to find a way to clean/correct the problem. What is the best way to approach this? Currently of the boat and...
