No Spark, feels like I’ve tried everything.

Ok still the troubleshooting in factory manual for a 3.0 EST will tell you what isnt working, or prove you have a defective unit

No Spark, feels like I’ve tried everything.

I would get a hold of a factory manual for your engine and there should be a troubleshooting guide - probably the pick up coil (inside dist that triggers the spark) or the module is bad. I'll look and see if I have a copy electronically tonight

    Mercruiser 3.0 1988

yes they are hydraulic flat tappet. the lifters are accessed behind the two panels. You can pull the rocker cover and see if there is any play in the rockers arms. They can be mal adjusted or rocker stud can pull out or nut can loosen. noise doesn't sound like that to me. I did see one time...

    Mercruiser 3.0 1988

ok thanks. it seems to be coming from rear of engine. I would think its either in gimbal bearing , ujoints or something in flywheel area is loose and rattling or flywheel and or coupler is loose. The latter will require pulling the engine or at least lifting it so you can get the flywheel...

    Mercruiser 3.0 1988

still not sure if the drive is up or not.... if up just trim the drive down and run it at that speed first see if the noise goes away. re the comment about timing chain - the 3.0 uses a timing gear set

    Mercruiser 3.0 1988

Read bondo post above if outdrive is all the way up and you run above idle speed the ujoints will make noise. before you spend too much time and money if you haven’t make sure your stringers and transom are solid. would also pull the drive and inspect the bellows gimbal and ujoints, pressure...

    Mercruiser 3.0 1988

yes needs to idle a bit lower. Not sure if something is loose inside the flywheel cover or flywheel is loose (or the metal cover on front side of flywheel cover) ? I would be inclined to pull the drive and run it ( connect water by jamming hose in bellhousing or connect to hose up from...

    Mercruiser 3.0 1988

yes shift interrupt should not trip while out of the water and no load is on the prop. If it does usually indicative of worn shift cable or corroded linkage in bellhousing. 625-650 is a decent SWAG idle speed. Best place for info is the factory Mercruiser service manual which exact manual...

    Mercruiser 2.5 ticking sound

you could probably get an idea of the back lash in the timing gears by turning the crank back and forth and seeing the delay in either rocker movement or the rotor in dizzy turning. Also did you run it with the block circulating pump belt off. Possible if the bearing in it is bad it could...

Help me choose a new prop for my Ski Ray inboard tournament boat

if it really has been on there for years some level of creativity/special words/brute force will be involved. The key may not be the entire length of the keyway so not surprised you can't see it. I would be patient with cycles of heat and penetrating oil. Not sure what kind of torch you are...

    new engine overheats

Doubt the flow rate between bravo and alpha housings is different as it’s the same engine . Most likely related to hose locations and water flow given bravo is engine driven raw water pump and alpha is in the drive so flow path from transom housing is different

    new engine overheats

If you cant really leave your hand on them long then they are probably the correct temp. when the thermostat opens (should be if engine is 190-200) it should be feeding water water out of the block to manifolds. If those hoses going from thermo housing to bottom of manifolds are not hot no water...

    new engine overheats

This could be an important piece. your manifolds and elbows are fed separately (Warm manifold system). The elbows will get water supplied at all times so exhaust get cooled when the thermostat is not open. Your set up is a little differnt than mine. I have a T on top of the thermostat housing...

    new engine overheats

Thee shouldn’t be air mixed with the water might be from muffs but would make me think pump is pulling in exhaust gas unless you do not have enough supply volume or pressure. what is the layout of your cooling hoses to manifolds and elbows. Do you have separate feeds off thermo housing to...

    4.3 crankshaft/housing oil leak - next steps?

Not sure - I think this is the parts list for your engine - https://www.marineengine.com/parts/mercruiser-sterndrive-parts/43l-gen-4bbl-reman/1g400000-up/intake-manifold-and-front-cover it shows a plastic timing cover. these covers are single use and they dont sell the seal separately. of...
