Fluid Changes for Winterizing, Do I Need to?

I'm not here to call anyone out for being wrong... But there is a lot of "information" being thrown around here without any sources... Unfortunately this is how bad info gets propagated. If anyone has actual useful info to show that "new fangled" oil is better I'd be interested to read it... I...

Fluid Changes for Winterizing, Do I Need to?

Holy crap... I started a "whats the best oil" thread... sorry everyone... a bit ironic as I reply at a sprint car race where they replace engines after almost every race... im tending towards the better safe than sorry camp.. mostly cuz i took college Chem 3 times to pass.. moral of the story...

Fluid Changes for Winterizing, Do I Need to?

Yea, that was my plan... crack the lower plug and check for water and put it back in if lube comes out right away. As far as the engine oil.. I guess I'll change it.. I usually buy the rotella 15w-40 by the 5 gallon pail anyways so I already have it... I'll probably just leave the wix filter on...

Fluid Changes for Winterizing, Do I Need to?

Wait, I thought the adults only section said every 3 years for alpha 1 gen 2s??? (I know I didn't specify thats what I had) but do you change yours every year on your A1G2 @achris ?

Fluid Changes for Winterizing, Do I Need to?

I think I already know the answer to this question, but... Life/weather got in the way this boating season and I only put about 5 or 6 hours on the engine... Now we are getting close to winterizing time and I typically will do an oil/filter change, drive oil change before putting her to bed for...

    Alpha Paint Question

It'll be fine... The seal areas are painted from factory so no issues having paint there... One thing I would be careful of is that the transom plate and gimbal housing still fit together before you put everything on the boat and find out its too tight because of paint buildup. The "snout"...

    U-Joints for 2003 Alpha One Gen 2

For what its worth... Here are the dimensions I got from the two different u-joints... The first one is the 805536A2 u-joint. This is what is specified for certain 91-95 drives and all 96-97 drives. The second image group is the 75832T1 (equivalent - couldn't find quicksilver brand in...

Urgent help - nearly broke down at sea. Fuel Problem.

I would say most likely not... usually when a bearing seizes, it REALLY seizes... if that were the case, I'd bet the starter wouldn't even be able to turn over the motor... It might be a good idea to go thru the thunderbolt ignition diagnostic flow chart and make sure you ignition is working...

Urgent help - nearly broke down at sea. Fuel Problem.

Have you confirmed that the choke is working properly?? after running for 5 minutes, the choke should be fully open, maybe its stuck closed and thats causing the engine to starve for air..

Urgent help - nearly broke down at sea. Fuel Problem.

Had the same thought, but 3k at WOT is also not correct... If it was a spun coupler and you went full throttle, you'd rev way above 3k... Still, 3k rpm and 5mph doesn't add up either, but usually if you spin a coupler, you'll have zero power until you stop the engine for a minute and let the...

    More U-joint knocking?

I've also noticed on my drive that it makes a little extra noise when turned fully to one side or the other, even with brand new u-joints... Makes me think its normal

Alpha one Outdrive Trim motor works sporadically. Solenoid issue?

If you really feel inclined, you can put on "solenoid savers" lol... I did a video a couple years ago about adding flyback diodes to trim solenoids and the starter solenoid to prevent internal arcing which will make them last way longer... Solenoid Video

    U-Joints for 2003 Alpha One Gen 2

I'm starting to think there was something weird going on with my setup... Not sure what I have and how I ended up with it, but something doesn't add up... I ended up buying both u joints, one of the 75832T1 and one of the 805536A2... I'm going to compare them to each other... maybe theres a...

    U-Joints for 2003 Alpha One Gen 2

I dunno... I'm not going to say its impossible because I bought this boat used and I was told by the previous owner that parts of the drive had been replaced (I thought he said SEI) but everything says Mercruiser on it, except for maybe the lower?? I really doubt there are any companies out...

    U-Joints for 2003 Alpha One Gen 2

I actually did a google image search for both the 75832T U Joint and the 805536A2 U Joint and overlaid the two images in photoshop and copied it below... Its a little hard to see, but the U Joint on the bottom is the 75832T version and as you can see, the slots for the internal snap rings are...
