    351W Aft Motor Mounts

In your case they are worn out. When they are good it is possible to freely rotate the fiber washer between the transom bracket and flywheel housing.

    Flywheel not engaging?? Mercruiser

There is rust on the armature shaft preventing the gear from moving to the flywheel. You might be able to clean the rust off once the starter is off. The starter is probably good and should work.

    1976 Mecruiser 351W Ignition System

The hose clamp is to insure that the starter is marine approved to seal out any gasoline fumes from entering the housing and causing an explosion. The automotive band used on a similar starter is plain steel which would not last in a moist bilge. Also the difference between the automotive and...

    1976 Mecruiser 351W Ignition System

The only other way to get the gear retracted is by running it against a wire buffing wheel which simulates the engine‘s flywheel.

    1976 Mecruiser 351W Ignition System

Hopefully your ring gear is not damaged where you will need to remove the engine to replace it. What you need is a replacement starter. The Prestolite starter with the Bendix drive system has a tendency to chew up ring gears. The replacement starter is of the “Dyer “ style drive gear...

    290sp square trim gauge issues

Great picture. My son says that the only measuring device Volvo designers have is a framing square.

    290sp square trim gauge issues

Scott you are right but I always liked to aggravate the Volvo people about the square gauge. I never could get an answer as to why it was square. Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year!

    290sp square trim gauge issues

I Re powered several boats with the square trim gauge, I kept asking for the square hole saw tool that was needed but never got an answer back. My local Volvo service rep told me that whoever designed that gauge must have also the been same person who designed pin ball machines! Merry Christmas...

    Engine removal thoughts

Whichever way you get the engine out you really need to have it on an engine stand. Trying to replace the sheet metal on an swinging engine is no fun.

    Engine removal thoughts

Put the hoist in the back of a pick up truck, strap it down with ratchet straps. Also remove the wheels off the boat trailer which will give even more working room. After the engine is clear of the boat the hoist may not go down enough to mount the engine on an engine stand. You will just...

    Power Trim Control Panel

I have to agree with Scott. Most likely the control was up graded in the past.

    Power Trim Control Panel

Probably the lower toggle switch was the trim control which was wired through the trim limit switch on the gimbal housing. The top button is probably the trailer button for full tilt. Sylvan probably cut corners and did not use the genuine Mercruiser control that has the trim/tilt controls on...

    Volvo Penta AQ131A & 275 OutDrive

There are 2 areas on the drive that could be the problem. The hose fitting mounted on the suspension fork will rot off allowing air to get into the water stream. The other is the “O” ring that seals the lower gear case to the mid section allowing air in also. Sierra # 18-2777 Or Volvo#...

    What is this?

Definitely a MPI model engine that was connected to a stern drive. Probably in the 430 HP range. Looks like the model of engine that was in the Donzi I had.

    New Carb conversion issues 5.7

Do you think that there is a restriction between the fuel pump and the suction tube in the tank? Were you having a fuel starvation problem before removing the fuel injection?

    New Carb conversion issues 5.7

With the engine running what is the voltage at the + or bat side of the coil? How much fuel pressure is at the carburetor?

    Raw water pum

Try setting up a bucket of water in the boat with the suction hose directly in the bucket. Or just plug in a garden hose to the suction side to see if it will pump the water.

Excess vertical play in intermediate shift shaft? Alpha1G1

There is supposed to be a stainless flat washer on the top of the shift shaft bushing. This washer holds the brass intermediate shaft up so that it stays engaged in the bottom of receiver under the bellhousing. You will have to drop the lower to add the washer.

    Mercruiser 5.7L warm start challenges

How many idle mixture screws does it have? The Rochesters have 2 and the Mercarbs have 1. Personally I never cared for the Mercarb.
