    Stupid me, no oil

The actuator needs a rebuild or can I buy a new one?

    Stupid me, no oil

Starter is fairly new, though rusty. PMGR. I don't remember if it was new or I disassembled it after the dunk. The actuator...yeah, I was trying to ignore the small leak. I'm already way behind the 8 ball for getting splashed. I'll check it out and see if I can figure out where it's leaking, but...

    Stupid me, no oil

Yeah, that's usually my go to for threaded sections. This one it looks like it seized in 2 places: The outer bushing to the flywheel housing, and the inner bushing to the bolt. I think grease would be the better choice here, but to paraphrase you, anything would be better than nothing.

    Stupid me, no oil

Ok, had planned on pulling the engine in the fall, but personal crap got in the way. Still haven't had a bunch of time, but managed to get the engine out yesterday. Everything going fine until I ran into the starboard rear mount, which was completely seized. Took me a few hours to get out...

    nautical charts

Some interesting options here: https://nauticalcharts.noaa.gov/publications/print-agents.html#coast-pilot I don't see a free way to do it easily though. EDIT:You can go to the custom chart creator and make your own to export as a pdf. Actually pretty cool...

    setting ign timing

My '01 4.3 truck pull had brass plugs and a composite head gasket

    Puffing steam out vents

IIRC my vortec didn't need retorque; the head bolts were TTY/ torque + 90' or something.

    Leak into bilge, bellows?

This is not the test for good alignment. The "2 fingers" mentioned here is to install/remove the alignment tool. Once it's jammed in there it probably won't take a ton of effort to turn it. How hard was it to remove the tool? Were there any witness marks on it? This sounds way off to me. My...

    Leak into bilge, bellows?

Centering the bearing itself should cure the alignment tool problem... Engine alignment itself *shouldn't* be affected by gb replacement, though who knows. OP, 2 different things we're talking about here

    Leak into bilge, bellows?

Good that you asked this ahead of time. When you remove the shift cable, thread something else through (I use weed whacker line) and tie it off somewhere convenient in the engine bay. Remove the cable housing, and thread new housing over the weed wacker line. Lots of information about this if...

    lower unit replacement

Yeah, nice to see it in person. Before buying I'd pressure test, pop the top cap to check bearings, check oil, and make sure it turns smoothly. Always rolling the dice to some extent though

    lower unit replacement

Not worth repairing. Either grab a used unit or get an SEI new one.

Alpha outdrive stud came off with nut. Never saw this before???

I'd want to free up the stuck nut before screwing the stud back or good shot of it happening again.

Alpha outdrive stud came off with nut. Never saw this before???

Dunno that I'd go this route. I think everyone is assuming you're replacing the stud. By the super glue comment... You are going to try to reuse?

    Exhaust Boots Install

I'll put grease on all of my coolant hoses. Makes future removal sooo much easier. Not sure what the downside would be. Exhaust boot obviously much different temps though. Have put some power tune on the exhaust, probably doesn't do anything for removal

Have spark and fuel, can't get the rebuilt engine to start

I'll throw in here as well, since we don't know the specifics of "won't start" (unless I missed it). Is it catching/back firing/etc? If it wants to start until you let off the key, it's worth checking that you're getting 12v to the coil with ign on. The cranking power circuit is different than...

Performance expectations for a smaller boat??

My CS is about 1k # with me on it. Upper 20's easy, 25 hp 2 stroke merc. It's now waterlogged (probably 300# in the hull...) and compression is down to 100# on both cylinders. Still 26-7 mph with just me.
