New member - deck install panga

My boat is a 22 footer with a complete replacement of transom, stringers, and floors and I am at 25 gallons of resin and about to order 5 more gallons.... Hoping I can wrap mine up in the next month or two...

Confused with 5.7L Timing Cover Replacement

What Scott said. I do believe they make one with the sensor hole and one without it. The sensor is a potential leak point. So, I think you have a choice there.

How to Remove Paint (or ?) Inside of Cabin?

Being a 1976, my boat had ugly white shag carpet all over in the cabin and green astro turf inside the cabin top. When I pulled those out, it appears that the fiberglass underneath had been painted (?) black. It doesn't appear to be gelcoat and is completely covered even on the wood shelves...

    Mystery diode on alternator

Electric circuits require two wires to do anything. Unless there was a wire in the cap of the fuse holder or attached to the tab on the side of the fuse holder (most likely) that went somewhere, this doesn't do anything.

    Gelcoat Application Questions

Thanks for the links. I ordered from Fiberglast as they have pre-colored gelcoat using RAL numbers. Mine comes closest to RAL9010 (white) using a color chart so that would work for me without having to mess with colors. Is it simply a matter of whether it will cure or not? If it is an...

    Gelcoat Application Questions

So if my math is correct, that's 8.87cc for the 20oz mix. I just realized I screwed up though. I bought a gallon of gelcoat and a gallon of Duratec some time ago and then got delayed in doing the gel work. I didn't think about the shelf life and time has flown by so both of those are over a...

    Gelcoat Application Questions

So, I believe Duratec says 50% gelcoat and 50% Duratec (1 to 1) so for 32 sq ft its 10oz of gelcoat and 10oz of Duratec for a total of 20oz for your estimate. How many ounces of MEKP for that mix?

    Gelcoat Application Questions

Following up as the weather is getting warm enough here to do the gelcoat work. I have two additional questions. First, how much gelcoat to mix up for spraying an area 4ft x 8ft (32 sq ft) with one layer? Second, how long to wait before spraying the second layer of gelcoat (with Duratec)...

    carter mech fuel pump

You can find them in this parts diagram. They are used in two places on the fuel pump and one place on the fuel filter. Unfortunately, the parts list doesn't five the size on them: https://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/parts/1939_60.cfm

    carter mech fuel pump

When I installed my Carter, yes, I had to use adapters. I am not at home right now but will see if I can find the size on my laptop. I remember finding the info via google so you might try that. I think they actually show up on the Mercruiser manual parts diagram for the 5.7L.

Bearing clearances and roller vs linked chain 5.7

I have a vortec truck block build up as well from a 1995. I put in a double roller chain, roller cam/lifters and roller tip rockers. I did not put in roller rockers. I put in the roller chain since I was upgrading to roller elsewhere to slightly improve performance. The roller chain is...

Anybody Experienced with ClicSeal Pour Spout

Ok, thanks... I want to do the V Berth first, then put in the V Berth bulkheads, and then do the rest of the deck. So, I think I will hold on the V Berth for now, get the gas tank set in and the deck over it finished, then pull the trailer out (for blast and paint) so I can do the underside at...

Anybody Experienced with ClicSeal Pour Spout

Thanks. Due to logistics it will be difficult to do everything close together. I guess I could go back to just putting the lid back on. I bought a gallon of pre-colored gelcoat but I don't think they had it by the quart.

    carter mech fuel pump

Another tip: When you install the new fuel pump, check the fuel pump pushrod for wear. If you need to replace the pushrod, make sure you get the right one. They are different for the non-roller versus the roller cam. The non-roller fuel pump pushrod used on a roller cam will cause severe...

Anybody Experienced with ClicSeal Pour Spout

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these pour spouts, how well they work and how well they seal? Over the next several months I will be doing small sections of gelcoat at a time so wondering if these pour spouts will seal the gallon can of gelcoat so that it doesn't degrade over...

Wood species and type for stringers

I find it almost impossible in my area to find high quality dimensional lumber that is straight and without cracks or checks. A lot of it wants to split as well. It is hard enough putting in new stringers without having to fight bent wood. I went with 3/4 inch marine grade plywood for the...

    Staple into fiberglass?

I have been able to staple through a layer of 1708 into marine plywood. However, I was using a Dewalt air driven narrow crown stapler but did manage 1 1/4 inch staples with only a few bent staples. If you do it this way keep in mind that you will fracture the fiberglass at the staple so you...

Two Layers of 3/4 CSM versus One Layer of 1.5 CSM

I have started laying covering on the deck. I am working from the bow to the stern. The pics below are my V Berth. I laid one layer of 1708 and then one layer of the 0.5 CSM on the deck. I used only one layer of 0.5 CSM since once I put the "under cushion storage boxes" I will be adding 1708...

Two Layers of 3/4 CSM versus One Layer of 1.5 CSM

Your cross pieces is what I had in mind. Mine is a 24 inch span. My original tank cover was glassed into place and not removable. The tank was foamed in so there was foam supporting the floor over the tank. My tank I am installing is a brand new custom fabricated aluminum tank that is epoxy...

Two Layers of 3/4 CSM versus One Layer of 1.5 CSM

I went with 1/2 plywood on my deck with floatation foam underneath. No give to the deck at all. I only have the deck over the fuel tank left to put in. I may go to 3/4 inch there as I won't have floatation foam on top of the tank but I am also trying to figure out how to put cross ribs over...
