    Ignition Issue

Take a small screwdriver and gently spread each pin in the cannon plug. Sometimes that can cause the problem. Also check that the shift interrupter is wired correctly or that it is not in the triggered position.

89 Volvo Penta AQ271C ignition or carb, maybe something else

As Lou said you need to check the voltage on the + or bat side of the coil. There should be 12 volts or slightly more with the engine running. Just considering the age of the Petronics system if it was my boat I would have a spare so maybe you should try replacing the original one and keep the...

Leaving Tampa, Osprey, Fort Myers ? ?

I hope all you Florida guys made out without too much damage. I can feel your pain as the southeast and west parts of Louisiana caught a few bad ones in the past. A whole house generator came in real handy for me last year.

MC-1 transom + cork gasket, to seal or not to seal?

If the insides of the mounting holes are not sealed you could put a ring of sealer around the studs where they protrude inside the transom before bolting the inner mounting plate in place. That will keep moisture out of the holes from the inside.

MC-1 transom + cork gasket, to seal or not to seal?

Sealant may cause the gasket to split. You could go around the perimeter of the transom plates after they are torqued down. Nice fiberglass job I must say.

2.3l acts as if flywheel has missing teeth

Just use the original solenoid to trigger the solenoid on the new starter with a #10 wire and using a switch to switch heavy cable mounted to the battery side of the original solenoid to the starter main post. That is how I set up the rear entry PMGR starter on my jet boat. Another way is to...

    Help!!!!!volvo Penta aq125a inboard aq270 outboard

The tried and true best way to locate the source of the fuel delivery is with a 6 gallon outboard tank and bypassing the boat tank. If the engine straightens up then the tank is where to look. If not then start checking fuel pressure and any filters before the pump. The carburetors are easy...

MCM 470 Starter Shot? Replacement options?

Leave the small tan and yellow wires where they are on the original solenoid. Relocate the main battery cable to the large post on the new starter. Remove the large yellow cable from the original solenoid and make up a #10 gauge wire to replace it from that post to the “S” small terminal on the...

MCM 470 Starter Shot? Replacement options?

If you shorten the bolts they will fit. Or have some 1/2” 13 studs turned down to stepped 7/16” 20 so a 5/8” o.d. hex nut will fit. That is what the Mercruiser conversion kit used to come with when converting from the Prestolite to the Delco style. I do not know if the other starter is easier...

2.3l acts as if flywheel has missing teeth

Check the diameter of the starter centering hole, make sure the hole in the plate is not bent inward. The hole has to match the raised area that registers the starter. Ford marine and industrial sometimes have a smaller hole than the automotive engines. If an automotive starter is forced into...

    Reverse only

That is what it appears to be. It might be possible to replace the cable without removing the drive. Try to get a genuine Volvo service manual for your model.
