    You may have reversed the 2 primary wires on the main solenoid. Is there power to the instrument panel?

    Try tightening the set screw in the tilt shaft. Also check all the engine mounting lag screws in the stringers. Is the propeller tight? It should not be able to slide on the shaft.

    Chris, I realize most MIE engines have reverse entry starters, Is there room to use under engine starters? As you know the ring gear can be on either side of the flywheel. I will take a ride to the local rebuilder and ask him your question.

    When the drive is in any position other than full down or full up it is normal to be able to feel the slack in the quadrant to lift gear . Also the worm drive to clutch pack gear clearance and there may be some clearance on each end of the worm gear.

    You should not be able to raise or lower the drive by hand. First try a 1/4 turn first, if it still wants to thump give it another 1/4 turn.

    Disconnect the front control box shift cable from the converter box. Then try shifting to see if the binding is in that cable rather than the lower one.

    Try what I mentioned, by submerging the suction hose in a bucket of water or just stick a garden hose in it. If the pump does not pull water then I bet either the 1/2 moon key somehow slipped out or the pump drive coupler is not turning the pump shaft.

    Sierra Marine #. 18-6783. Trim motor and reservoir. Reuse the lower pump and valve assembly. The 4 “O” rings are easily acquired at any auto store.
