    Engine replacement help…

Pretty sure this isn't true. Though I used the flywheel that came with the block, I don't recall which balancer I used These things are a dime a dozen in the scrap yards. I got mine for $180. IMHO, you're much better off with a truck engine than a 30 year old Marine engine. Almost by...

Shouldn't be hard to find the source if it's leaking that fast

Question about 90 amp fuse on starter

Don't have the diagram in front of me, but harness should be protected by the 50a fuse ... Or do you mean if the orange physically melts and takes out other wires?

Question about 90 amp fuse on starter

The older models didn't have them. I find it odd that it's there when there's no protection from the battery to the starter. I think it's there mostly to protect the alternator.

    Oar length

I have a Jon boat that is exclusively me powered for crabbing, some fishing, tooling around. Usually no more than 1 or 2 miles at a stretch. Prefer it to the kayak. 7 ft oars for me.

Maybe my turn for new boat time

Wow, between you and @tpenfield ... I expect to put work into my boat. If I spent 6 figures on it I wouldn't be nearly as patient as you guys.

    . . . and I Thought Hi-tech Boat Engines Were Bad . . .

To be fair, it's better than many boat installs, "step 1, remove engine"

Alpha 1 gen 2 lower unit (gear housing) drive shaft removal

Ok, I might have misunderstood. Thought that you initially flushed only, then disassembled but didn't find any residual metal, ie the lower didn't need the disassembly and flushing would have been adequate

Alpha 1 gen 2 lower unit (gear housing) drive shaft removal

Nice info. Did the upper gears get wiped? Conventional wisdom on here is that the lower needs full disassemble after that, but I can't recall seeing what happens after just a flush

    1979 3.0 140 mercruiser engine swap to 1988 3.0 engine

Yeah I think the coupler changed when the RMS changed, dunno what the change is that required yoke length change. Rear mounts/flywheel cover?

    1979 3.0 140 mercruiser engine swap to 1988 3.0 engine

IIRC all inlines except the 470 used the shorter yoke on the MC-1

Help winterizing 2013(?) VP 4.3 mpi

Well, happy (or sad, I guess--that probably would have been my boat next year had the block cracked!) to report that it didn't crack. Access to everything was so easy. 4 blue plastic plugs, pulled the T stat hose, and saw the water pump hoses before seeing @Scott Danforth 's response. Beautiful...

Help winterizing 2013(?) VP 4.3 mpi

Just got down to the river for the weekend, noticed my neighbor's boat still on the lift. Long story short, it hasn't been winterized. We've had a few freezes this year, not sure how cold, but I think engine crackin' temps. I offered to help her pull the boat and winterize. 2 ramps nearby...
