    1991 5.7 350v8 no acceleration after 2000 rpm - bogging out

1: spraying carb cleaner on a carburetor is like squirting an IV on a patients head. Not useful. 2: That the previous owner *says* he did a carburetor rebuild means almost nothing. Did he use quality parts or chinesium kit? Did he have any clue what he was doing? Did his rebuild solve the...

    Mercruiser Alpha 1 Gen 2

Note that there are tons of maintenance items that require the upper to be removed from the boat, that have maintenance intervals of 1 year. Removing just the lower leaves those unattended to. IE: inspect & grease the u-joints, inspect bellows for water or oil, inspect gimbal bearing, grease...

    Engine Replacement Compatibility

I have only a glimmer idea how insurance liabilities play into this. I swapped a 3.0L to a 4.3 in a 17 foot boat. Insurance company was interested in whether the hull was designed for that. While the manufacturer offered this model with a 4.3, and the insurance didn't actually require me to...

    A1G2 decisions. Rebuild or replace?

That makes sense. Would work fine.

    A1G2 decisions. Rebuild or replace?

That'd work fine as long as the pipe had an expanded section to contact the carrier. A pipe just bigger than the alignment bar would impact the bearing instead and destroy the bearing.

    A1G2 decisions. Rebuild or replace?

With bars that require the driver bolt to be drilled by the user, the setup is necessary to have the tip of the alignment bar started into the coupler when the gimbal carrier is still not started into the housing. That keeps the bar straight. If the bar is not in the coupler as the gimbal...

I'm running a non-marine Performa. No problem in clean 'sweet' water of Idaho. Cannot speak to Lake Ontario.

Check my work please - setting idle screw back to preliminary setting on a 3.0

Something not right. Setting idle MIXTURE screws is where you have a preliminary setting. Setting idle speed screw you are almost right - disconnect throttle cable, set idle speed (you will have to do this again when on the water). Then attach throttle cable and adjusted so it just presses the...

Fuel pump pressure and Flooding issues

Wouldn't have a mechanical on a 2005.... does the needle have the little spring clip holding it to the float lever? Those, if not hooked up right, can hold the needle open.

Alpha one Gen 1 U joint removal

You can take a plastic dead blow hammer and give it a sharp rap to loosen the fit, then proceed to sneak up on your rolling torque setting.

    Plugs fouling

As I said before before, don't run an auto carb on a boat. A road vehicle operates totally different. Loads on a car or truck are infinitely variable and most of the time run at far less than full torque output. A boat runs full torque 100% of the time. The design and calibration priorities are...

The engine stalled and no start while on the water

Skip the ether on a gas engine. Good way to blow a head gasket or do other damage. Just takes good diagnostics without risking your motor. As noted above, find out if you have spark and if not the problem, where the fuel problem is.
