    Oil everywhere

Drop the oil filter and make sure there aren't two o-rings on it.

    Fuel pump/carburetor

Is that a marine carb? Doesn't look like it.

4.3lx mercruiser loss of power when accelerating

That serial number should have a filter built into the top of the fuel pump. Plus there is a filter on the fuel line inlet to the carburetor.

4.3lx mercruiser loss of power when accelerating

As noted, next time it does that open the fuel tank filler and see if it sucks air. Dump the water separator into a clear container, see what you get out of it.

    4.3 Carb v 4.3MPI

Barring issues with one or the other, they are equally drivable.

4.3 motor swap with truck engine

Water pump doesn't have a thing to do with fuel pump. If your original motor had a tin timing cover, and the new motor has a plastic cover, then the water pump is different.

    4.3 Carb v 4.3MPI

Not to get in an argument over it, but neither your events nor your buddy's 5.0 sound like a vapor lock.

    Mercruser 3.0 alpha one

Most of the water will come out the idle bypass ports.

4.3 motor swap with truck engine

Get FelPro Marine. No way I would touch chinesium Sierra there.

    4.3 Carb v 4.3MPI

Vapor lock is bloody rare in an IO. Unlimited cooling. Only reason for a vapor lock is poor design or poor maintenance.

2004 4.3L Merc Alpha Starts But Stalls Out

Leaky fill fitting, cracked vent hose, fuel sender not sealed, etc. No likely a large amount of water from a pump. Carburetor needs kitting. Get an OEM Merc kit and tear it down.

    Stalls on acceleration under load

Get an OEM rebuild kit. Super easy carburetor to rebuild, just be thorough on cleaning and verifying every passageway, and get the float level perfect. Voila', back to running.

More like essential reading when you want to swap gen.

    1992 Trophy not advancing spark

Pretty easy to check timing advance with an electronic advance timing light. Tough without. You should see something like 26º BTDC advance at 3000 RPM. You can dial in 26 and that puts the flash right on the zero TDC mark. I would do this before assuming anything wrong with ignition system. An...

4.3 motor swap with truck engine

    There is no cross compatibility.

    4.3 Carb v 4.3MPI

He he, with a pre-balance shaft roller cam 4.3 block, Vortec heads, performa intake and 1409 carb, I don't give up much power to the MPI. Balance shaft takes 15 horses to spin off the top. This damn 4.3 runs! I'd still take an MPI in an instant over it. I have two chevy pickups, my 2000 work...

    1987 4.3l 205 high oil pressure

Back a gazzillion years ago I did a rebuild on a ford F350 351 Windsor. The machine shop included a HV oil pump. Pressure was so high it would shear the roll pin holding the distributor gear on. Which didn't care if you were in high speed traffic or at work in the parking lot, stopped the truck...

    Mercruiser 5.7 Running Issues

Yes, I saw your post. No, the oil pressure switch does not also turn off ignition. However, have to start fixing things as they get identified. The pump always running when the key is on removes the usefulness of hotwiring your fuel pump since it is already hotwired. And it needs fixing by...

    Mercruiser 5.7 Running Issues

Yup, needs an oil pressure switch.

A lot of water in the oil!

To make the oil milky it had to run the last time with water in it.
