    Question about battery post connections

So, ny-loc is reccomended? I didn't know that. I though the nylon insert would insulate, so I've never used them on the batteries. I know they wouldn't fully insulate, but maybe to a degree. As far as spinning the stud in the battery, I've had that happen twice and I don't think I was...

    Question about battery post connections

I have two batteries and always use the threaded posts as verses the clamp type posts. On two occasions, once on each battery, I have had the threaded post spin in the lead base while tightening them. I wasn't even applying a whole lot of torque. The makeup of these things are just a hex head...

    1989 Bayliner Capri Hard Steering

I will add that there's no way to determine if the cable has any fraying going on somewhere inside the sheathing. The OP's boat is from 1989 and it might very well be the original cable. There's probably no way to tell. When I replaced my cable I bought a kit that also included the helm. I...

    Crank, no spark. Need advice.

This is what I was thinking. If the deadman switch is tripped, the engine will still crank, but won't start.

    Exhaust bellows

Yeah that exhaust bellows is definitely a pain. Mine popped off and I just left it that way (4.3L alpha 1 gen 2) . It's basically acting like an exaust tube now. Some say the exhaust is louder, but i don't think it's really much of a difference.

    1989 Bayliner Capri Hard Steering

I would first determine if it was in fact the cable. If so, and if you are thinking about removing the cable to clean and lube it or replace it, attach a string or wire to one end before pulling it out. This way you can use the string to easliy pull the cable back in and this will also ensure...

    Boat Ramp Etiquette

If there's a line of tow vehicles waiting to use the ramp, you'll need to get on that line. If you're retrieving, you must make sure your boat is not in the way of anyone else who is launching/retrieving. If someone is piloting your boat, they can just idle somewhere out of the way. If...

    Boat Ramp Etiquette

Is there a dock at the ramp? Where I boat there's a dock that's long enough where you can tie off your boat toward the end, while someone ahead of you can still launch or retrieve their boat. This dock has two sides, so two people closest to shore can launch/retrieve while two can be tied off...

    How much trim?

I would make sure your trim limit switch is adjusted correctly first.

Going from surge brakes to no brakes

I switched from hydraulic surge drum brakes to totally electric, self adjusting drum brakes. It was not hard to do. I was tired of the constant banging whenever I came to a stop and then accelerated from a stop. Plus the system was not working most if the time and needed constant repairs such as...

What Pipe is Best for Bilge/Livewell Plumbing?

Yeah, that looks very similar to the terrible pond hose that constantly failed in my early koi pond days. I learned that schedule 40 flexible PVC was the best hose to use in my koi pond. It is definitely the last hose I will have to buy. When searching for it, make sure you specify schedule 40...

    Quit My Job . . .

Yeah, I too often wonder how I got all this stuff done while I was working 5-6 days a week. I somehow kept up with all this work on just the weekends! The best thing about retirement and boating is we only boat on the weekdays when it's much quieter. Weekends are insanely crowded on our...

    Winterize

I put my 5 blue plugs for my 4.3L and my garboard drain plug in a zip lock bag. I tape it to the steering wheel. I use vinyl electrical tape with the sticky side up. I don't want any gummy sticky black junk stuck to my steering wheel!

1989 Mercruiser 3.0 Cranking but no spark.

You stated you assume the kill switch is good because it cranks. Please clarify. If you mean the safety lanyard, the engine will crank all day if that switch is tripped. It won't start, but it will crank.

    Air Don't Freeze Winterization

I don't know how anyone would not run their boat on the muffs for initial Spring startup. This is the time to see if everything is good to go. The time to check every system. To see if in fact water is flowing with proper force out of the stern. To check the integrity of the engine itself...

Mercruiser 3.0 TKI engine crank half time - never starts

Ok, I stand corrected. Sorry for the misinformation.

Bayliner Bowrider 175 (2004), no power to anything other than Trim

Awesome! Glad nothing but a fuse was damaged with the mis- wiring.
