    Rotten Boat Factory

What a waste! Can't you complain to the powers that be about all the junk? Its a bit of an eyesore, esp old cars....

I'd spend more time looking out the window then working!

    Weather

Anybody else having crazy weather this winter? Its the middle of Feb and I'm still looking out at grass! In Canada! We haven't had enough snow yet this year to be worth talking about and its always melted again in a few days. Ponds are partially open too. Not really complaining mind you, not a...

    Olympics

I was looking at the comments about that Chinese/American figure skater who did poorly. I felt bad for the poor kid, but a lot of people were saying some very extremely derogatory things about her...shameful if you ask me.

Boat trailer rusting at welds galvanized

Yeah, as stated above. Mine is about 5 years old, galvanized and used pretty much exclusively in pure salt water. I've never rinsed it or applied any coatings and it has no rust. Its bolted together.

Cheetah 180V (1984) or similar outboard conversion

What do you mean by "hook"? Last year I converted mine to an OB and have no regrets. I went from a merc 165 to a yamaha f90. If by hook you mean the keel is curved up then walk away!

    Transporting a 20' boat on a flatbed.

Just for the record, I would have put the boat on the flatbed with lots of old tires under it and strapped it down.

    Motor vs. draft

How deep is the water anyway? I agree with Bob, if you got to worry about inches then I wouldn't chance damaging an expensive motor in that area anyway. A good wake wave from a passing boat could do a job on you!

A few questions from a learner

The prop can definitely be fixed cheaper then buying a new one, been there done that. But unless you got lots of money to spare, I'd leave it as is, I doubt very much you would even notice a difference after fixing it. A four blade prop probably would make a difference, its up to you if its...

    deer meat question

I made moose sausages 2 weeks ago. I used 30% beef fat by weight. Turned out pretty good if I do say so myself! Used beef just because I like beef better, pork would be fine too. Local supermarket meat room saves all their beef fat trimmings for local commercial sausage maker but will sell to...

Chips in hull of new boat. Used it twice. How serious?

Just my opinion, but I'd use the boat this weekend. Everyone talks about water soaking into the laminate, but I don't think that would happen that quick, maybe more like months or even longer. It is fiberglass not carboard, They use it in boats because its practically waterproof. Gelcoat is only...

    Question about resin

Poly is what most boats are made from and is plenty strong. Considering thats likely whats already in your boat and thats what you plan to finish with it makes more sense to just use it for all your needs.

    Replacing plywood with solid wood?

I'd use the Mahogany. Most of the strength in the transom is from the fiberglass, with the core more for creating an I-Beam effect. As well coosa board isn't as strong as either plywood or wooden plank by itself, but works just fine, I know because I just finished using Thermolite (very...

    HULL REPAIR QUESTION

Just my 2 cents worth, but the bottom just looks like scratching from beaching a lot. I'd just gelcoat over to cover any spots where the fiber glass is exposed. You can't even see this in the water or on the trailer unless you crawl underneath. The drain plug area Scott mentioned may be just...

What foam to use to build a fiberglass cooler?

I fooled around with polyiso foam this summer when i was debating using it for structures in my boat, like floor and bulkheads. Decided against it because of strength issues but for a cooler or live well it would probably work fine. The sheet i had had a thin cardboard backing on both sides and...
