    1987 evinrude 30hp, idle trouble

You are missing the plastic fitting at the base of the idle mix needle. The fitting holds the needle in place after you set it.

1970 18HP Evinrude: At WOT, RPMs vary greatly

might check the bolt at the front of the lower carb. Make sure it's snug (high speed jet underneath, and rpm will be a little crazy if the bolt rattles around).

1966 johnson 6hp only firing on one cylinder with spark from both plugs

points setting is good. (Tip -- don't remove them to clean. Run a match cover with cleaner through them.) Initial carb setting (idle air mix) is 1 1/2 open from lightly seated. Should run and warm up with that setting, then make finer adjustment. It sounds like you may be set a bit too lean...

Mid 90's 15 hp mercury made force is trying to introduce me to davy jones!

Replace the impeller (river sand destroys them). Measure spark on all leads with an open air, adjustable tester (not the inline type). Look for about a half inch spark to determine the magneto is ready for prime time Tester looks like this, and should run about $10 US at an auto parts store:

    Force 120 problem

Measure spark on each lead with an open air, adjustable tester. Need about a half inch (7/16"?) In measuring spark, you are testing magneto strength.

    Force Vs Johnson

3-cylinder OMCs for certain years had a problem with an airlock in the cooling system, resulting in overheating. Tell-tale elbow had to be moved to the top of the engine.

    120 Force Starting Issues

+1 for Arco if you want a replacement. Why not pull the stater off yourself and disassemble (remove long vertical bolts). You may need new brushes or perhaps only a good cleaning with electrical spray. (Make sure it's dry before trying to fire it up.)

1967 evinrude 80 hp need help.

sorry for the dumb error -- gearcase, not crankcase. One way is to use a piece of rubber seal and the needle for blowing up footballs. Puncture the rubber seal and hold it in one of the drain/vent holes to add air. A mity-vac works well for vacuum test if you want to do that as well.

1966 johnson 6hp only firing on one cylinder with spark from both plugs

Clean and reset the points. (Some use brake cleaner to clean, some acetone.) I usually set points the old fashioned way -- rub arm at high point on the cam. Make sure the spring connectors contact the wire core.

1967 evinrude 80 hp need help.

Use a bicycle pump or similar and put 5 or 6 lbs of air in the crankcase. Use a spray bottle with soapy water to locate leaks.

1995 evinrude 90 hp pees at idle but doesn't when running higher rpms

^Agree. Monitor the head temp to make sure it's not overheating.
