short shaft or longshaft how do i measure my 1979 johnson 35 h p

Just for grins, you might measure the boat transom to see if the motor you removed had the correct shaft length for the hull.

    Ficht leaks fuel.

Ball obviously wouldn't get hard if fuel is blowing out as fast as you pump it.

1956 Fleetwin Water intrusion in cylinder?

on the water intrusion -- Maybe the head is badly warped. Could try resurfacing it until mating surface has an equal shine all around (w/d sandpaper on a hard surface). new gasket and retorque.

    Ficht leaks fuel.

Not a clue, Jerry -- but #9 and #35 appear to be nozzles -- maybe part of the primer system(?) Could be normal.

1970 18HP Evinrude: At WOT, RPMs vary greatly

Probably appropriate to ask about condition of the hull. If you have water moving around under the floor, you might see the conditions you describe. Waterlogged foam an issue too, but think that would not yield any variation.

1956 Fleetwin Water intrusion in cylinder?

Thanks for the correction on oil ratios. I run '57s, and recall (after your reminder!) that 16:1 is called for with the 7 1/2 -- unlike the others in the line. I haven't run mine in a couple of years, but go with the book ratios.

    1987 evinrude 30hp, idle trouble

^Adjust clockwise 1/8 turn or lap at a time until the engine lean sneezes/mild backfire or stalls, then turn c.clockwise 1/4 turn -- should be very close to proper setting.

Water coming out between power head and lower unit

could be one of the powerhead freeze plugs (aluminum/silver color unless painted over). Sounds like a lot of water, but might be a badly warped head. You might pull it back off and resurface it on a level surface (piece of glass works) with wet/dry paper.

1994 Johnson Fast Strike 150 dies when it warms up

Perhaps a bad regulator (rectifier regulator).

1956 Fleetwin Water intrusion in cylinder?

Run at open throttle in the lake, and adjust high speed needle slightly leaner clockwise. See if rpm and speed increase. Adjust the jam nut to hold in place. Readjust the idle screw after h.s. screw has been reset. 20:1 oil ratio seems high, although I don't have my cheat sheets in front of...

    1987 evinrude 30hp, idle trouble

don't understand "laps", but initial setting is 1 1/2 open (c.clockwise) from lightly closed. Fine tune from there. #17 does not appear in your pic, so maybe was "in process".

Loss of power in 1988 Evinrude 88 spl

Make sure there is no water in the gas (would see it at the bottom of a glass jar if you test a sample that way).

1967 evinrude 80 hp need help.

(excuse to make a sharp high speed turn to see the water flow....) Grab the kids. Think I've had seller's remorse every time I restored and sold a rig. Usually because I didn't play with it enough.

1970 18HP Evinrude: At WOT, RPMs vary greatly

need to check spark using an open air adjustable device (auto parts store). Tests magneto function.

On paper how much faster is a 15 HP compared to a 9.9

Change out the impeller before more trials, if you haven't already done that. Find a light 12' Starcraft, and operate from the center seat using a tiller extension (articulated extension for full control).

1999 Evinrude 6hp Four Stroke motor

Check the oil in the gearcase (make sure it wasn't drained and not refilled). Try eBay for a manual.

1967 evinrude 80 hp need help.

When the t.stat opens, it's not hard to see the overflow out of the leg. I remember testing a new impeller on a similar motor, and the water shot out about 6 feet. It's not subtle.
