J50PLSTD miss fire over 3000RPM Idles fine. Compression is good

What's the operating temp in the lake, not on muffs? Check surface temp at top of head.

1974 Evinrude 85 unable to reinstall lower end

Try carefully shifting into reverse or forward while attempting to raise the gearcase into position. May be a two person job.

My boat is hard to start after being ran at higher rpms for 10-15 minutes and being shut off.

When it's hard to start, what is the temp at the top of the heads? Too hot to touch is too hot to run. An IR tester should show something less than 160F.

    78 Evinrude 9.9

CDI when new will likely produce a stronger spark, but the older points/coil/condenser system will allow you to troubleshoot and adjust, unlike a CDI system -- and certainly cheaper.

    65hp evinrude no power

All pretty complicated, unless it ain't. Possible the middle carb float valve is not opening to allow in fuel. If there was a rebuild kit requiring the small wire hook to lift the needle (which has a sometimes sticky tip), Still could be a basket case, but maybe a better running basket case.

    Tachometer started going in reverse

Grey wire only (pulse wire). Red is a hot wire -- may see it in the wiring running to the gauge lighting cluster. Post a model number for your motor.

85 evinrude 25hp power head gasket

Looks like that motor was sitting in a full test barrel for a season or two -- or something similar. Not sure what gasket was falling apart -- need a head gasket to test compression, which should be a first step.

    78 Evinrude 9.9

depends on what is meant by 'significant'. Replacement parts are more expensive. Spark may be stronger, but that would depend on the conditions of the ignitions compared -- and the adjustment of the points system hate to be a wet blanket, but that impeller pictured is a risky bet -- cracking...

should be tight. Post a model number.

    Evinrude 1969 Polychromatic Blue paint

A good auto repair shop can match it. Bring in an unblemished piece (maybe the air horn).

'88 Evinrude 90Hp not achieving WOT

Measure spark with an adjustable open-air tester (tells you if the ignition is strong or not). I would go to .030 point gap.

    Is my regulator bad?

Take a shore charger with you, just in case. Vacations are like that. Make sure you have a fresh impeller (check cooling system).

    1957 evenrude 5.5

Maybe not so fast. If the motor was run with the impeller dry/out of water, it could have be destroyed in a few seconds. I would at least have a look at it.

Provide more descriptive info., Ashleymap. Sputters and stalls, won't fire, etc. Compression readings. Last carb rebuild.

    johnson 25hp compression

Try another tester -- screw-in type with a pressure release button. Try it with all plugs out. Crank until needle stops and record result. Hot or cold doesn't matter, nor does throttle position. 80# is low. Look for 110-125.

    1985 evinrude 25hp

Check the float valve underneath. Newer kits contain a wire hook to make sure the needle comes up with the float, opening the valve for more fuel.
