    Excessive smoking

That is the purge (drain) valve. Wanna history lesson? Go back a few years and there were two drain valves (actually one double-ended one) #14 on this diagram. Those drained more areas of the crankcase. And the drained oil was dumped straight into the lake. Around 1968-ish, the drainage was...

    Excessive smoking

Turn the low speed needle in till it sneezes, then back it off till it stops sneezing. Part of the purge system was eliminated on that model to reduce water pollution. We got lots of complaints about poor idle, smoke, and fouled plugs as a result. Hey, remember how lousy the 1970's cars ran...

Operators manual for 1957 Evinrude fastwin 18 hp model 15020?

Aside from the tank and hood, this 1956 12hp Viking is closely related to your 1957.18 Evinrude. Close enough that the operating instructions would be very similar, again except for the tank. And the number of ponies munching oats under the hood. https://richardlpaquette.ca/12D13VManual.PDF

Issue with air coming out of water intake.

Interesting. Of all the thousands of motors I've started in my life, I don't remember ever seeing air coming out the water intake when starting. Nor even looking for it.

You have to look at the accessories parts lists. Where?? Can't say. I found it at a competitor's website.

    1976 Johnson outboard 9.9HP 10R76H diagnosis

Much has been written about those motors. Just for laughs, try a NEW set of UL-81C plugs. You'll need them sooner or later, anyway.

    Wiring diagram 1958-61 35 & 40 hp error.

There is an error in this diagram that has been circulating the web. It shows a black wire attached to the ground terminal at the bottom of the terminal/fuse strip, with no apparent connection at the other end. That wire grounds the voltage regulator in event there is an accessory generator...

Back in "The Day", a real locksmith could make the key from the (KF) code. I dunno, do they have any real locksmiths any more?

1976 Evinrude - Metal vs. plastic water pump housing?

Yeah, the chrome pump housing was a whole different animal. t was cast bronze with had chrome plating to resist the abrasion caused by muddy waters. Surprisingly, I've only seen a couple of them, even here in Florida with our sand.

    Stator 6hp non standard

You mention grease taking up the slop in the plate. One problem we often see is over-zealous greasing. Grease splatters out from vibration, fouling the breaker points' contacts. A light smear is all you need. It is slightly different than our 6hp motors here in U.S. More/relocated mounting...

    Stator 6hp non standard

That is the OMC LO-Tension Magneto. Most commonly used on 1974-76 9.9 & 15hp. Likely a 6hp commercial motor, or one built for the European market.

    Carburetor bushing

Pre-assemble the packing nut & packings onto the needle and screw it into the bushing a few turns, all this outside the carburetor. Then poke the whole assembly into the carburetor and tighten the packing nut just enough to hold the bushing from spinning. Now turn the needle in till lightly...

1976 Evinrude - Metal vs. plastic water pump housing?

Nah, the basic design problem was the water intake holes on the front edge of the gearcase. Weeds would wrap around them and cut off the flow. Later models had slots across the holes in an attempt to prevent totally blocking the flow. I guess it helped some, but not much. Not till the...

1976 Evinrude - Metal vs. plastic water pump housing?

Well first, we had a lot of trouble with the cooling system on the 1976 35hp. motors. So much that they couldn't even be used in our Florida waters, The water intake would get blocked with weeds and fry the motor. That being said, the plastic housing pumps were far better than the aluminum...
