    Hood replacement

See, problem is, the part number changed every time the trim, paint, and decals changed. That would be every year, at least. A quick search shows that the hood latch changed for 1966, and the overall shape changed for 1976. So, anything between those years ought to fit. But check carefully...

Starter does not engage. (Need Advice)

Do you have a multimeter and do you know how to use it? Do you know what a voltage drop test is and how to do it? Don't buy anything till you establish what the problem is.

Starter does not engage. (Need Advice)

Respectfully disagree. Jumping the two small terminals can only destroy the safety switch, if anything at all. There should be no voltage on either small terminals until the key is turned to start position. Then there should be 12V on one and zero on the other. and the starter should run. If...

69 Johnson 60hp hydroelectric drive starts in reverse

Brilliant thought. But my knee-jerk reaction was that the shift wouldn't work if running backwards. Duh....of course it would default to forward---which would be "reverse" since it is rotating backwards.

    1957 Brooklure 1200 made by Gale/omc

12hp Gale bore size was 2-1/4" 15hp J/E bore was 2-3/8" 18hp J/E bore was 2-1/2" 12hp base gasket was 303892, but was superseded by 377070 baffle plate and (2) thinner gaskets kit. The idea was to keep the exhaust away from that troublesome seal. Really didn't make that much difference. The...

    1957 Brooklure 1200 made by Gale/omc

Let's start with a confirmation that it indeed is a 1957. Model number 50T3338 (Gale model 12D15)? Do you have any more-specific questions you want answers to? True that is closely related to the Evinrude / Johnson 15hp, but with some important differences. Powerhead has major internal...

    Big differences, same power?

With sincere apologies, I gave the correct answer to the wrong question. Question often asked is why a different horsepower from seemingly identical engines, but different rpm's. Perhaps, when I come out of this medical brain fog...

    Big differences, same power?

The missing factor there is the load. (Propeller and boat). Given a particular load, engine #1 develops it;s maximum HP at 5250 rpm, while with the same load engine #2 will develop more hp, allowing up to 6000 rpm. The additional rpm with the same prop and boat makes the boat go faster...

Add telltale pee hole to 1965 Johnson 75 HP

Go ahead with your plans to add a tell tale if it makes you feel good. Yes, the choke port is a good place to tap into it. Just be sure to restrict the flow somewhat s you aren't bleeding off too much coolant water.

    1976 Johnson 25hp driveshaft issues

If it is a bkoken shaft, the lower unit gearcase and exhaust housing need to be checked for parallism. Or just take your chance of breaking another one. Instructions are in the service manual.

    Johnson 60ESL70B component

To clarify, the blocking diode supplies power to the shift switch when key is in run or start position. But when key is turned off power to the shift is lost and the shift instantly defaults to forward gear with an unmistakable jolt. Basically, harmless but rather un-nerving. Enter the "diode...

    Stock plug for Evinrude 50

"suppressor" means it reduces or eliminates RFI which interferes with nearby electronic equipment. Champion "R" plugs have resistive suppressors, "Q" plugs have inductive suppressors. The suppressor type affects the spark waveform. I doubt it will cause any physical other than performance.

    Old Johnson Powershift II 85hp

That motor came with a two-stage choke solenoid. There was a factory service bulletin advising to move the SOLENOID wire coming from the thermal switch over to the terminal strip screw which presently holds the solenoid wire coming from the choke switch (along with the present wire from the...

Need advice also on the rectifier?

The clipper circuit was there to protect the amplifier/pulse pack from high voltage spikes. CDI said to remove the clipper circuit when installing a new amplifier/pulse pack. But they didn't say why. The only logical explanation I can come up with is perhaps CDI built voltage spike protection...
